In the flash of an eye, untold thousands died yesterday from Tsunamis resulting from the 4th strongest earthquake in the last 100 years.

This thread is dedicated to them. If so moved, please feel free to post your offerings.
:rose:

the ocean rose
and scoured the land
as if the hand of God
itself
flung bodies
into boughs of trees
carelessly like toys
strewn about a shelf
tore houses, families, lives
apart
battered bits and pieces
ripped out of context
spun topsy turvy
into a new reality
cars in hotel lobbies
cadavers in fish freezers
and lifeless souls
washed up on to the shore
like so much flotsam and jetsam
to be gathered like driftwood
grey and gnarled
and burned upon the pyre of pain

Small blue planet shrugs
blows the candle
of a thoudsand universes,
reminding the remaining:
You breathe at my mercy,
so breathe.

Does the know,
Mother Earth,
what her children leared
this day,
how a sunset
over golden horizon
will never be the same
again?

Will they breathe,
or hold their breath
and close their eyes
to hear the rubmle
in time now?

I have no poem to offer. But I do read about this tragedy and cry.
I was just on yahoo's home page and there is a link to a few sites if you'd like to make a donation. Of course, check it out first. The sites are verisigned.

Such beautiful people,
my brothers and sisters.

I cannot kiss their faces,
nor fathom loss
from so small a space

in the corner of my room.
How dare I cry from here--
tears drawn by distant image.

I should hold their hands,
weep in the middle of nothing.

Give strength for there are many to lay to rest. Let hands be strong (if not calloused) where the heart is not.

and the Lord shall watch over them...

I submitted a poem about this, After The Tsunami. Let me know if the rather weird structure worked for you.

Sack:)
