South Carolina De-Evolving

Well, he's representative of a majority of somebody. He got elected.

Of his district, but not South Carolina. He doesn't hold a statewide office.

Ah yes, I remember Andy and Opie walking past the Catholic Church on their way down to Schlomo's barber shop and stopping off at Leroy Washington's fix-it shop.

Yeah. Where were the black folks? The show was filmed in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, not too far away ("Mount Pilot", the sister town to Mayberry in the show was a play on Mt. Airy). There ain't many jews there, but there are plenty of blacks.

SAT scores have gone up in South Carolina. There is a much greater effort to prepare students to take the SAT beginning in middle school.
So if there has been a successful push in South Carolina to fine-tune their education system, why would they willfully sabotage it by introducing pseudo-science into their curriculum? What's next? Flat-earth theory in Geography?

I don't believe the Legislature has passed the bill yet. Any member of the House or Senate can introduce a bill. It's another thing to get it passed into State law. You're going off about a religious whacho as if he represents the majority here. He doesn't. Oh, he does have his followers. But most see him for the nutjob that he really is.

I hope so.

But those "nutjobs" are doing real damage to the education system in Kansas and Pennsylvania.

Home schooling is looking like a more attractive alternative all the time.

If it was someone viewed more as "mainstream" pushing the bill, I'd be very concerned. Fair's bill will get filibustered to death though.

I live in South Carolina, thank you very much, and let me tell you that just because the legislature brings something to the table, it doesn't mean that every one in the state thinks that way, It's just one man's agenda. Yes he was elected, but then again, so was Bush, and you don't see me attacking you for not being able to speak correctly.

Again, it's not really about South Carolina.
I have a hard time believing that South Carolina's SAT scores are "on the rise". A recent survey done by UConn on GPAs showed that every state in the US without exception was experiencing a downtrend. I just can't see how GPAs can drop and yet SATs can go up.

I think there is a very real danger of Universities looking very hard at applicants from states that use "Faith-Based Science" and re-considering their admission.
What about students wishing to study abroad? Would Cambridge University take it into consideration?

Well, over the long term, that's a self correcting problem, isn't it? As the percentage of students accepted in colleges drop, the demand for educational reforms that address the decline will grow.

Wow. I just joined, Im in Greenville SC, and did a search on greenville... and I find THIS?

I find it interesting that those who think THEY live in IVORY TOWERS, and berate other peoples and places, based on news articles and blurbs, and .....

Really not what I was expecting to find here.... AT ALL.

There are people everywhere who want 'Creationism' or 'Intelligent Design' or whatever variant of this idea taught in schools as an 'alternative theory' to Natural Selection, and some places have a higher concentration of these people than others. Just as long as no one is broad brushing an entire state, or country, for the opinions of one group of people, whether that group is in the majority or not.

For your amusement, check out the linky below.

what's your point? say something else or this just reads like a classic defensive gut reaction that has no meaning.
