First case of South African variant has arrived in SC.

Uk is here all over already.

Brazilian is likely here just not discovered yet.

Well, its time for me to spend a little less of it here and a little more in preparing... hopefully, for nothing😳.

Can't hurt it be prepared... hopefully to see everyone on the other side of this!!!

It's statistically likely that there are several US versions - you just haven't found them yet. There are already numerous variations - far more than the the three being highlighted. It's in the nature of coronavirus to mutate, just like the common cold and flu, so going forward the vaccines will need to be tweaked to target the likely variations in the same way the seasonal flu jab is.

So far as I've seen, there is no evidence that the existing vaccines don't work against the variants. Weirdly though, I've heard the boffins say that you can still get the virus but you won't be as ill.

Not every country has (or had) the capacity to detect variants.

The new UK vaccine (not yet approved) has proved effective against the UK and South African variants.

Dozens of mutations have been detected everywhere but the greater majority of them are of no consequence. Evolutionary failures from the virus point of view as it were. The UK, South African, and Brazilian mutations just pose the greater threat.

Given that the vaccines are only ~90% effective you most certainly can get the Wuhan Flu even after being vaccinated, just like the common Flu. And it's also true that in most of those cases the symptoms will be mild.

I, and my wife, have just had our first Pfizer jab this morning.
