Bruce Henway checked his compass for the thirty second time in the last hour Sweat was running off his brow as he looked desperatly for an opening in the forest. He estimated that it would be dark in about an hour and he had no idea where his camp was. He was lost. As much as he hated to admit it he was lost. To make matters worse before he dropped his cell phone in the river and watched it sink out of sight he had called his parents and told them not to expect him home for another week or so he would be staying with sme new friends he had met . He groaned in dispair He told his friends he was going home before leaving them at the campsight, He had packed his tent and all his belonging this morning and left them saying goodby If he hadnt changed his mind just before he lost his phone someone would send out a serch party as it was no one would miss him for a week he shuddered. could he survive for a week in the wilderness this was his first camping trip sure he had read all the books about camping in the wilderness fat lot of good they would do him now/ he felt hopeless and alone and it was getting cold He set up his tent and started a fire He had some trail mix that he munched on half heartedly but had neglected to pack some real food thinking he'd be back before night fall/ An owl whooted in the distance making him start and he begin to wonder about wolves and bears. He threw a log on the fire. It was dark now and he was scared.
