sore back

Try a career in professional wrestling. They never get sore backs.

Heat or cold, whichever feels better.
Lie flat with a pillow under your knees.
Take anti inflammatories (like advil) if you're not allergic.
Take it easy.

any ideas to make it feel better.

That sort of depends on why it hurts.

I suffer from chronic lower back pain as the result of a pinched sciatic nerve. An Ice pack and Excedrin are the usual treatment for when it gets bad. A heating pad helps when it's just annoying.

That sounds like muscle fatigue or strain. Given the heat wave over most of the US, it's quite possible that you're dehydrated, or need electrolyte replacement (GatorAde (tm) et al)

Try a couple of bananas and lots of water or sports drink. Also m,ake sure that you drink lots of wter at work, even if you aren't thirsty yet. By the time you get thirsty, you're already about an hour behind on fluid losses.
