That song is about drugs?

Another view

Let us look at songs that idealize
sex and/or lust

this is just a random list.

1. Just about any Prince song
(the artist formerly known as, perhaps?)

2. crazy for you-Madonna

I get all tingly whenever Lavender validates my posts.

Hooch?

Isn't that song "Hooch" about alcohol? I can't remember who sings it, but it goes "Who's got the Hooch, Baby? Who's got the only sweetest thing i the world?"
"Lodi Dodi" by Slick Rick and later by Snoop Dogg

Not to mention the Doors cover tune,
"Oh show me the way to the next wiskey bar"

Panama Red

"Candy is dandy, but liquer is quicker"

"I said, hey bartender, hey man..."
"One bourbon,
One Scotch,
one Beer"

Purple Haze

"Go ask Alice, when she's ten foot tall'"

"Don't touch my baggage, please Mr. Customs man!"

Tequila

La cucaracha (Sp? Yo no habla, hablo)

I could do this all day,

Now, look at the blues...

Wasn't Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys?

I doubt it. That song came out long before the Beastie Boys did. I can't say that the song convinced me to try Brass Monkey but I still remember that experience.

Eric Clapton - Cocain
What was the more recent band? Black Cherry? Another coke song...

Alcoholic songs...

Pretty much anything by George Thorogood:

The aforementioned One Bourbon, One Scotch & One Beer.

I Drink Alone

If You Don't START Drinkin' I'm Gonna Leave

There's also "Junkhead" by Alice in Chains:

A good night, the best in a long time
A new friend turned me on to an old favorite
Nothing better than a dealer who's high
Be high, convince them to buy

What's my drug of choice?
Well, what have you got?
I don't go broke
And I do it a lot

Seems so sick to the hypocrite norm
Running their boring drills
But we are an elite race of our own
The stoners, junkies, and freaks

Are you happy? I am, man.
Content and fully aware
Money, status, nothing to me
'Cause your life is empty and bare

What's my drug of choice?
Well, what have you got?
I don't go broke
And I do it a lot

You can't understand a user's mind
But try, with your books and degrees
If you let yourself go and opened your mind
I'll bet you'd be doing like me
And it ain't so bad

What's my drug of choice?
Well, what have you got?
I don't go broke
And I do it a lot
Say, I do it a lot!
I do it a lot!
I do it a lot!
Say, I do it a lot!

The Beastie Boys formed as a punk rock band in 1981. Brass Monkey was released on their first Album, "License to Ill" in 1986 on the then brand-new Def Jam label. It was the best selling rap album of the 80s.

I'm unsure if "Brass Monkey" was an original Beastie jam, or if it was someone else's and they covered it. I was 8 when they came out. LOL. I can find out though.

Neil Diamond

(oh god help ...... me why do I know this?)

Some more songs.

Drug Songs:

Cocaine - Eric Clapton
Heroin - Velvet Underground
One Toke Over the Line - Hell if I know!
Casey Jones - Grateful Dead
Damned near anything by Cypress Hill (Even Lampooned on the Simpsons!)
You Don't Know How It Feels - Tom Petty
Sweet Jane (Or so I've heard, anyhow) - Lou Reed or the Cowboy Junkies.

Of course, the Doobie Brothers group was named that way, as was, as I recall, the Mary Jane Girls.

Now for sex...there's a whole huge list, same for alcohol!

Hooch wasn't about alcohol. It was about sex, namely a specific part of the singer's girl's body. :)

I thought of another one

White Rabbit ...... Jefferson Airplane/Starship or whatever they are called now. Sung by Grace Slick anyway.

Actually, the version that was performed by the Beastie Boys was not original. The original version was performed by an African-American group in 1979, which happens to be the same year that I had my first Brass Monkey experience.

Mindtrip by Non point is a definate song about acid.

I drink alone, and One burbon, one scotch, one beer, by George Therogood are definate songs about alchohol. Have a drink on me, and Whiskey on the Rocks, by AC/DC are yet more songs about booze.

That's all I can think of for now......

Thank you, Darlin. I was on my way to check on that just now, too. But I found your post, so now I don't have to ;).

Of course I have only heard the Beastie version, seeing as I was only a year old when the original came out and my parents were into the more boring music until the mid-80's or so.
