My son's name is Scott. When he was a kid and heard this, he thought it was just for him.
Then he heard this. He decided that's where his sister got her name.

I never knew either song until after my kids were born. I swear.

Oh its the "you're not supposed to get warm and mushy about boys, they're supposed to be tough" crap. I think it goes back to the Spartan mothers telling their sons to go to battle and come back either carrying their shields or on them.

There was a real tear-jerker, around 1970 or 1971, called "My Boy," by Richard Harris - - - the actor/singer who did the original "MacArthur Park," and who specialized in the songs of Jim Webb, one of the greatest songwriters ever. Anyway, it's a man looking down at his little boy as he sleeps, talking softly about an impending divorce. "You're all I have, my boy," is part of the chorus. Very tender, very fatherly, but utterly inappropriate for the desired purpose in this thread!

It was a Top 40 hit, the title track on a Harris album, and was picked up by Elvis in concerts. Here 'tis:

I'd tell you to use "Boys" by Britney Spears, but the grandparents might faint.
