With all the schools closed today, half the parents around the neighborhood showed up bright and early asking if I would watch their kids while they were at work. Most of the families around here have both parents working just to make ends meet.
Of course I said yes, and the influx of rug rats commenced.
I now have 14 kids ranging from 3 to 12 hanging out down in the basement and in the living room watching DVD's, playing pool, and/or getting on each others nerves.
It's a good thing I have my daughter here to help out.:D
She's always talking about how she wants a big family. I told her this would be good practice for her.

Better you than me. :D

I have no idea why, but my house seems to have become the default gathering place for all the children under ten years old in my very large neighborhood. I only have one still at home, but some days I start out with two extra and by the time two or three in the afternoon rolls around, there's ten or eleven of them out in my backyard, cheerfully punching, tackling and hurting each other.

I think they're breeding when I'm not looking.

I like my kid and his friends hanging out at my house. Only problem is they're teens and they EAT. Costs more than gas. :)

Bard and Cloudy:

Our house used to be the hangout place for neiborhood kids. Didn't matter where we lived, it was better than collecting strays. Now that the girls are grown we collect ferral cats
Think I want the kids back

Hanging in the basement? Well, now there's child porn if I ever saw it.

I finally got rid of all the excess rug rats, curtain climbers and drape apes.
Ah, peace and quiet.
Actually they were fairly well behaved. Only 3 minor squabbles and one minor injury. (A 4 year old bit her older brother on the arm when he wouldn't pass her the ketchup at lunch. )
As an added plus, it finally quit snowing. :)
Looks like my daughter and I will finally be able to get out on our Harleys this coming week for the first time this year.

That is what you get for being beyond cool!!!:D

Exactly. They're good kids, too. Fun to have around.

People would be surprised, with all the horror stories that go around, that there are still good teenage kids. My dad often says he got lucky with me, because I fell into the right crowd. We were more into playing computer and video games, academics [almost all of us were honors/AP students], hiking, than causing mass destruction.
But sadly, I have seen the black side of teenagers, several of my friends [not my clic but still friends] graduated pregnant or parents already, we had one girl graduate with a police escort as she was on charges of prostitution, seen beatings, fights, and heard of rampant sexual behavior. One guy I know quoted "I miss "x" school system, because of the weekend orgies we used to have". Rumors of "rainbow parties" were heard, and so on and so forth. Does scare one about the idea of having kids, and having to deal with such things.
But, on the bright side, parents have more of an impact than they could really imagine.

...I think they're breeding when I'm not looking.

I know you meant that figuratively but if one were to read it literally... ;)

Sorry, but you just gave me my giggle for the day. :D
