I got the impuse, since I knew that over the years some of my stories had been copied from Literotica or ASSTR to other erotic story sites (once in a while even with permission) to Google in quotes the first few words of my stories and see where they went. I figured that the TITLES would show up too often to be useful.

I found the results interesting, and you may want to do it with your own stories. (Haven't tried my poetry yet.)

A whole bunch are on a site devoted to trans-sexuals, though I have never written anything about them. Or I should sat Google says they are, since the link never goes to my stories, though often to A story, one unlike mine. Actually over all about one in three for all the sites goes to a vaguely appropriate site. Exactly one has actually had a photo which could match a scene in my story.

"Some Problems Are Easier," about a woman in a brutal situation, has been pirated by absolutely nobody. On the other hand, "The Oldest Dance" had 135 hits for the first line. That one has almost-public sex, but none of the sites using it specializes in that.

In two cases the story is copied in English but the site is in another language. (Years ago I had a story translated into Russian with permission, but the site is no longer there.)

I have written the sites where they left off my byline, but I don't expect many will do anything.

Yes, try it. Most bizarre at times.

Story piracy has always been a problem. It's difficult to monitor, although if you find a site that posts your stories without permission, or attributes them to a different author, a PM to Laurel often results in swift action. More than a few sites have been chastised or shut down by her. ;)
