Something new happening with my stories...

and I'm not sure I like it. It seems that the last two chapters of my story 'Surprise Honey The Sequel' haven't gotten any public comments...at all, nor have I gotten any feedback...either way. I'm at a a loss as to why this is happening. They are both scoring well...around 4.66 or so and both have had over 6800 reads. No comments of any kind.

I have always gotten comments on my stories...even the real bad ones, and this 'trend' is begining to bother me.

I guess I'm wondering if nobody wants to comment...am I losing track of my writing?

I never realized how much I like feedback, even the nasty ones. I miss it more than I everr thought I would.

*sigh*

Damn.

I guess this is more of a vent than a question...so I had better ask something about this.

Have any other authors here had a similar situation happen to them? Did it pass?
Could it be the section (incest/taboo) that slowed or stopped the comments?
Am I worried over nothing?

Just...heh...curious. ;)

This is a really dumb question, so please forgive me, but have you enabled public comments?

The default is for them to be disabled. Worth checking, anyway.

Yeah...I checked that right away. I have had comments on every other chapter...either in public comments or in feedback. This is just something that I've never experienced before.

Maybe I'm being too needy or something...but damn...I write for the comments, not the score or reads...I like to hear what people really think. Besides, sometimes, feedback gives me inspiration to write another story in a different vein.

It might help to have a link to your stories in your signature line. Like this:

curious2c's stories

Quote that then copy and paste to your signature.

Otherwise it is a chore to search for them.

I've seen something similar recently.

Email feedback has grown really scarce on my latest stories. (total count=1) Past experience was about 1 email for each 10 to 20 rating votes cast.

The only correlation I can find is score:

It could be that 4.2 out of 5 or 8.4 out of 10 is a cut off point to getting feedback (latest is 4.2/8.3). All of my other stories under different names are above those scores and received a decent amount of feedback.

(I post under different names to avoid getting a 'following'.)

Still I wonder if there isn't a trend towards less feedback. I notice that I get almost no replies to the feedback I send to authors. If this behavior is consistent it would tend to discourage readers from sending feedback in the long run.

Should I search for "Grimoire" by velvetpie, or is it just a waste of bandwidth?

Let me know.

Ogg...I will do that in this thread...never thought about how difficult it can be to find one's stories.

Op_Cit...I most always reply in to any feedback. Usually, it ends up being a nice conversation. The anon's have always been hard on me...not for the content, but I have wanted to reply to some but found it impossible to do so. Not all my anon have been negative either.

Lime...I've done several multi-chapter stories. I have had one chapter in each of around nine or ten chapters not get any feedback, or not get any public comments...but always I have had one or the other. With the reads around 6800 on these two chapters, I wondered why no feedback. In the past I have usually gotten about one feedback to each 1000 read's.

I am probably just worrying over nothing. Maybe some have given me comments and feedback and don't feel they need to anymore since they already told me what they thought. Still..it is the only 'pay' I get. I am not a published author...unless you count Lit, SOL and ASSTR as being published...which I don't.

I guess I'm just in a mood more than anything and probably...as said by a far better author than I...'much ado about naught."

When I first began posting here, I got feedback on a daily basis. Tons of it. I must have hundreds and hundreds of feedback letters still sitting on my filing cabinet on AOL (I've been trying to archive it). I don't get that anymore.
It's nice to hear from people, but I don't need tons of feedback, just enough to know that folks are still reading. Beyond that, I don't expect my readers to leave feedback every single time I post something. It's like what I say about responding to feedback, only in reverse. Unless something really strikes them, how many times can they say that they like your work? Generally most of my readers give me a heads up every now and then, and that's cool.

I've also noticed a great decrease in feedback - both emailed and in public comments. And for me, it doesn't seem to have any correlation to votes/reads. I published a new story over the weekend, has over 5000 reads, 30 votes, and 1 public comment. I've gotten 2 feedback emails about it, both of them from (creepy) men wanting to "get to know me better" (nothing about the story itself). In the past, I could always count on at least a dozen emails, if not more. This is also one of my highest-scoring stories, so I fully expected more feedback from readers on this one. But all's quiet on the feedback front for some reason....

comments and feedback

Im quite new to the site and submitted my stories over quite a short period of time. I noticed that some categories drew more feedback than others. This seemed to be related to the theme rather than the story itself, as votes were still cast

brightlyiburn...That is what I have noticed, a trend of sorts where ever since the public comments section has appeared, the feedback in e-mail form has died...now it seems even the public comments are drying up too. I leave up all public comments...good or bad...and some of them have been pretty bad...maybe I've scared off some good ones due to that. This is the first that I've not gotten anything on two chapters in a row...and it's not the first mulit-chapter story I've submitted here.

trendyredhead...This is what I'm seeing as well. It's just like nobody feels a need or desire to let the author know what they think. Since that is the only 'pay' I get...it kind of hurts. I know that I've got some stories with fairly good scores, but still...as I said earlier...I don't pay much attention to scores or reads...mostly to the feedback or comments.

Quillman...yes, some catagories do develop more feedback and comments...the story in question happens to be in one of those that does seem to get more feedback. That's what is stumping me.
I could just be worrying over naught...but I'd like to see at least one comment...even a nasty one.

What I suggested is that you put the link in your signature line that appears at the end of every post. Then everyone on AH can easily see what you have written. Go to UserCP at the top of the screen.

Many of my multipart stories have no feedback or public comments. That is normal. Readers might comment on chapter 01 and that is it.

Writing for the themed competitions is different. Feedback and PCs are more likely for a competition entry. Next one is Earth Day.

Heh...I tried, but for some reason, it isn't showing up. Three times I copy pasted, and three times, it failed to show up as a signature. Must be a problem with the sigs or something.

edited to add...damn...the line showed up but not the link...now I'm doubly confused.

Damn...fourth try...still won't work as a link...how in the hell does one do that?

All right....finally got it. Thank you Ogg and minsue...you've helped this ol man figure out how to do a link in a signature line.

heh...damn...I feel kinda...dumb.

We all had to learn before we could tell you.

Now we are all learning how to use the new formats.

feedback

I don't write multipart stories so I can't comment on the response as regards those, but I've been fortunate to have not seen any decline in email feedback to my stories. I have the public comments enabled as well and as far as I've gleaned the one hasn't had a negative effect on the other.

I do think though that some categories get a higher number of views than others and that obviously affects the number of feedbacks and PC's.

feedback seems to vary hugely. Difficult to tell if it is catagory biased.
Highest feedback I've received is 60% of votes, lowest 1.6%. E-mails seem to arrive at decent intervals and because I'm nerdy on these things, votes arrive at about 1 per thousand hits, after the first week.
