Something I think would be really cool

Would to be able to be in a big, clear bubble of some kind, firmly anchored, and right out on the beach, or anywhere outside, really, when a hurricane hits.

I don't know why I want to do that. I doubt if there would be any way to make that happen safely, or someone would have already done it most likely. But it just seems like it would be a really awesome way to see a hurricane!

Actually you make and interesting point. Theoretically you could do it. Clear plastic could be anchored down. A sphere is the strongest geometric shape , but is not always pratical. Probably another reason no one has done it is because scientifically you don't get a lot of data, like they do when they fly planes into hurricanes.

I have seen a rainstorm from looking up through a flat clear piece of plastic (it was the roof) and it was awesome. I even videotaped it.

Well i doubt it could be done safely but i have to say i think it would be amazing to be able to observe a hurricane in such a way.

You would experience so many emotions from awe, to disbelief, to fear, to bliss:D

Maybe one day it will be possible:)

I don't want data....I just want to see it!

I'll bet your rainstorm was really neat that way!

You're right...I hadn't thought about the emotional aspect, but I do think you're right about that!

It was, I highly recommend it. You could do it yourself by lying down in the rain with a piece of glass or plexiglass covering your head, just hold it up. You'll get wet, but that shouldn't matter.

Maybe even a cardboard box, with the top cut off and covered by laminating stuff, that way you don't get wet. You could also go to a greenhouse during the storm, but I think a flat surface is better.

I would say that you could design a safe method for observing an actual hurricane. Basically a box with a clear top anchored to a large slab of concrete should do it. I mean house survive hurricanes all the time.

I would try the first suggestions first however, just because it is easier and safer.

Enjoy and good luck

Well, I'd want the whole thing to be transparent. And houses out on the beach don't fare very well. Of course, I wouldn't have to be out on the beach. Being on Shoreline Drive, or Ocean Drive, in Corpus Christi would be a great place to view a hurricane from a bubble!

Well I would recommend the following design.

a short box with a dome on top. Basically big enough so you could sit in it. The smaller it is the less wind resistance it has, therefore the less damage it should take. It does also need to be well anchored.

The rain storm I witnessed was a down poor. It was out of the ordinary to be there looking up, seeing rain and not get wet.

I have also always found it interesting to look up from under water as the surface always looks smooth despite waves or splashes.
