When I write a wordy introspective kind of story, one that's a little way off the beaten track and doesn't have a lot of sex in it.

And then I get a sweet, heartfelt, thoughtful comment from somebody with a username like Luvs2Fuk420_69.

One of these days I'm going to write a story where the protagonist goes to an online forum for romantic help, and the entire conversation is them getting professional-grade life advice from people with the most porn-y usernames I can invent.

"Your writing was witty, concise, and engaging. I particularly enjoyed your expert use of onomatopoeia. As an aside, I found your story a bit reminiscent of Camus, though not at all derivative. Well done!"

Something like the following:

From 'SheLuvsItInTheA': "I'm having problems conceiving, and we're wondering who we should contact or what to do as our first steps toward starting a family. My husband gets it up every day. But I'm just not getting pregnant. Also, could you recommend a good proctologist?"

I’ve been in HR/recruiting for parts of my career. Although dirty words were rare, you’d get resumes from people whose email addresses involved lots of “..4u2c” and “hot…something…somewhere. Thew was even a “bigdaddy” once too! It was prevalent enough you started not even noticing.

That's nice that you got a thoughtful comment. I heartily endorse your writing that story.

Yeah, a few years back one of my best team members was applying for a job elsewhere. First time I saw his non-work email address was when I was asked for a reference... it wasn't sexual, but it certainly wasn't something I'd be using anywhere near a job application.

OTOH, he got the job.

I spend a lot of time corresponding via e-mail with folks who have reached out to me through the Lit Feedback Portal. Twice I had lengthy e-mail strings that went on for months, and then they mentioned that they had commented on one of my stories. Only then did I realize that this "Bob" guy I had been chatting with on e-mail was FilthyAssFucker42 or something like that on this site.

It's always fun to share notes with other authors, but I find it darkly comic that I'm discussing the craft of writing and topics like pacing, plot devices, and character motivation on a story like "Wonder Woman" Takes it in the Ass.

Not HR related, but I occasionally get email addresses to communicate more easily with families of patients. Some of them have made me really glad that I was super unoriginal when I created my personal email 25 years ago.

Most recently the email references the person's old hobby, and when he replied to me, it showed up in my inbox as "Capt Crunch"

Some part of me desperately wants to tell my vanilla friends what my lit username is. How sad that we must hide.

Over on Reddit, there's a whole subreddit devoted to wholesome comments by people with less-than-wholesome usernames: /r/Rimjob_Steve

20 years ago I interviewed someone for a job with the email 'DaddysLittleGal' and was surprised when a woman in her 40s showed up. I chose not to ask, but may have assumed some things! The address has stuck with me and I wonder if it is still in use. Same job someone applied with BongSmoker81 and they turned up looking like a stoner and didn't get the job!
