Kiara had a string of long hard days behind her, her parents had divorced when she was young and she had learned to take care of herself pretty damn early. Which became more difficult as life became more complex, she had killer headaches on the worst days. She worked nearly full time to pay for college and just when she thought she had a break, the reality of death came crashing in. Within a year of graduation she lost her great grandmother and both of her grandfathers. She fled out of state to grad school and only had to deal with the pressures of college, the one area in which she excelled.
Many bottles of ibuprofen later, the degree was done. The struggle at home had changed, it was when are you going to do something with your life, get married, and so on. Besides which her one grandmother had seriously gone down hill and as she was between things she had become the primary caregiver as well as taking care of her nieces while her sister in law was recovering from surgery.
The headaches were getting worse and avoiding the nausea that sometimes went with taking ibuprofen. She had finally gotten her own place and was working full time and taking care of overyone else was taking it's toll. She often took late night showers or baths when the pain was really bad, and her sleep was taking a hit.
Kiara popped two ibuprofen prayed for relief and was debating between a hot bath, a steamy shower, or watching CSI. Right now she just wished for someone to take care of her for once, she'd love a real massage and breakfast in bed.
She finally took off her coat, kicked off her shoes, her feet throbbing as much as her head, and went to check her messages. The light was blinking, which meant someone had called, she hit the button and headed for the kitchen deciding what would be safe to eat as she felt her stomach churning. "Perhaps I shouldn't have skipped lunch," she said out loud noticing her cat curled up on the heater. She rubbed her temples and did not hear the messages.
