Seems to be a growing trend. Because a minority of the population is irresponsible or unable to property use something as it was legitimately intended, other people who can and do use it properly can't be allowed to have it.
This is the clearly the argument behind gun control. The responsible, law abiding, have to have their rights restricted because a minority of cretins and criminals can't or won't own guns responsibly or properly.
Now, we see it more and more with medications as well. They hysteria over "prescription meds" are leading to more and more rules and restrictions on doctors prescribing medicine that modern science has developed because a minority of people, often without any medical need at all, may get hold of them and abuse them. Many doctors are so scared of getting in trouble, or bought into the hysteria themselves, they simply refuse to even consider prescribing medications that actually help some people.
Why should a minority of irresponsible people cause the responsible majority to be denied things they want or could help them, whether it be guns, medications, or whatever?
