Some new category ideas... or some tweetin'

Greetings Fellow Lit-hounds....

As I am sitting here putting some final touches on some monster length story that in Lit will be 2 pages *LOL* I had an epiphany (always a bad thing at 730am)

Some categories.....
I see we have Loving Wives, what about Loving Husbands?

BDSM is like a giant pool, why not have the broken into it's obvious parts, B&D... S&M... Master/slave and Dominant/submissive? I think that we are truly missing some great stories by having that one huge group instead of having it broken down. (hides from her fellow survivor members at the idea of them lynching her over adding more categories)

I have seen this in many stories but it does not have its own category, what about Impregnation?

Always,
Elizabetht:rose:

Iwoso & the Sheik {Anal}
Jim Takes Control {BDSM}
Standing in the Corner {BDSM}
I Now Pronounce You... {Group Sex}
Kaitherine's Graduation Day {Incest/Taboo}
Kaitherine's Graduation Day Ch. 02 {Incest/Taboo}
Letter to My Lover {Letters & Transcripts}
Gordon's New Wife {NonConsent/Reluctance}
David {Non-Erotic Poetry}

Hmmm another good break down, I have to agree there. Some of the categories are just too lumpy bumpy.

Or as one of my old high school teachers would say about a term paper topic, "Your topic is too broad, you could write an encyclopedia and still not answer the question."

Categories are intentionaly broad. By and large the categories are not an aide to writers, but to readers. With the exception of our survivalists I don't think category comes into most of our conciousness until we have to pick one. Even then it is usually more of a pain in the behind than a joy. Most stories could cross two or more categories and some could cross several.

When you propose a new category you have to be thinking of smething that is going to see a lot of use and is intrinsically different from the categories that already exist. B/D, D/S, S/M, Master/Slave; these may have very different conotations in your bedroom, but by and large the stories within the broad category crossover into elements of each other. At what point does B&D cross the line and become D&S? Or where does D&S become more Sado-Mashochistic in flavor? Who is to make that call? Writers would be pulling their hair out, editors going gray and readers low voting the snot out of anything that was too hard or too soft for what they think constitutes D&S. As is writers know that if the theme is one of control, but isn't non conscent they can go to BD/Sm. Readers, wether they are looking for some light spakinking or real pain know where to go and since the cat is broad they are more likely to back click than low vote if they realize a story is too soft or hard for their mood.

I am not adverse to the addition of new categories, but I think a lot of thought should go into it. Specifically there needs to be enough writers who write stories that really fit the proposed cat and there has to be a demand from readers for that specific kind of story.

I bring a different perspctive on the idea of categories.
I maintain the FAQ on *codes* on ASS*. Codes are a lot
like categories, except that you can put on as many
codes as apply. So, if you have a story which involves
anal, oral, and BDSM, you put on all three codes instead of
choosing one category.
Anyway, I'd rather not have any of the proposed new
categories with one esception. "Impregnation" is a
useful, and frequently used, incident in stories. Actually,
though I don't propose adding two categories, it occurs in
two radically different kinds of story:
"Oh no, one minute's fun -- or one rape -- and I'm gonna
be an unwed mother."
"Darling, we succeeded; we're going to have a baby."
