Some days, all it takes is one kid to make you smile.

After having a raelly pissy three days or so, I got brought up really short last night. The encounter made me smile and did an awful lot to wash away the emotional detritus of the three days before that.

I was out delivering pizzas like I do most Friday nights and I was having a pretty bad tip night. I had two folks nearly in a row hand me checks with a one dollar tip already written on them, thus indicating that no matter how well or poorly I did, they'd already decided to screw me. I had to take money back to a lady because she was unhappy with her pizza, costing me more precious time. I was not happy, and I was in a hurry, too. It was a busy night and was in "hustle mode".

So I took this order up to the door and I saw this kid peeking out of the window. He opened the door and had a smile on his face so I smiled back and asked how he was. He said he was great now that dinner was here. The order came to $15 and change and he got a real serious look on his face. He handed me a couple rolls of change. He apologized for giving me rolled-up quarters but that it was his "savings" and that I could count it if I wanted. I smiled and told him that I didn't need to. All I needed to know was how much he had given me. He said "18 dollars. The rest of it is a tip for you, Sir". I thanked him very much and told him to have a great night and to enjoy his pizza. And I smiled all the way back to the store.

Isn't it cool how running into a person who is considerate and polite can really turn your night around? :D

Awwww, that just gave me the 'warm fuzzies' and now I'm smiling too! Thank you for sharing the smiles!!!

My pleasure!

I didn't mention, that kid's tip was the second biggest tip I had gotten all night out of 13 deliveries. It's just nice to see that manners survives, even if it's rare. :)

aaww how sweet, jim.....<smiling>.......the lil miracle...i guess when she was about 2 or so....would get so excited when the pizza got here....she'd run to the front door...and tear off screaming...."the pizza man is here, the pizza man is here!".....then she would have to have the check and tip in her hand before i opened the door.....to give to him....several drivers have watched her grow up basically.....'cause i don't cook much....and we love our pizza.......;)

(and okay...i did open this just to get to look at your cock again....but hey....i contributed to the thread a lil....omg that is a nice cockhead, jim)

I know!

And the kid had an earring and a Bart Simpson crewcut and was wearing an ICP t-shirt!!!

Trust me, the surprise was part of what made me smile so much.

What a sweet story :) And you sound like a peach.

Can I ask you what you consider a normal tip? I try to give $2 or around that for a regular pizza order, like 1 pizza and maybe a salad. Am I a cheapskate? lol

Well, around the store we look for 15-20 percent or 2 dollars, whichever is more. There are bounds to that, of course, but in general 2-5 dollars is a fair amount (and that gets mitigted by such things as rush hour, weather conditions, the condition of their driveway, etc).

Last night I had to struggle to average $2 per delivery and AI took at least four orders out the door that totaled 30 dollars or more.

You're definitely not a cheapskate. You are, though, a peach, too. ;)

Azwed You look too young to be sir'd

I end up seeing a lot of HSers where I work and all the damn incoming college freshman for orientation think I am like a grad student or something and give me the sir bussiness.

I am super senior not a grad student yet thank you very much.

My gf has gotten ma'am-d a few times which is pretty funny since she looks to be 17 or 18 tops even though she is 20.

People write checks for pizza? You can do that?

I must live under a rock.

Good grief! It must be a regional thing. In Chicago, we don't get maam'd until we're at least in our 30's! ;)

Oh sure. It's fairly common. I get three or four every evening I deliver. You can even put the tip on the chek and it'll work out. :)

I either need to get out more or order more pizza.

Cannot fathom writing checks for delivered pizza, kind of like putting your groceries on a credit card.

Sorry? I do both - is that odd?

I write checks all the time for pizza! it's usually a last minute decision to order one anyway and I don't usually have cash on me when order. I always add the tip to it and I NEVER tip under $3.00. I think the tip is a small price to pay to have my dinner brought to me.
:D
