Chris kicked the ball against the garage and watched as it came back towards him and then repeated the process, as he had been doing for an hour now.
Just like the thousands of times he had done so in the past, football was his life it was all he was good at and all he had ever wanted to do.
His father had been promoted from his companies office in England to the head office in Maine, America an opportunity too good to turn down and yet a complete disaster for Chris, 2 months ago he had been training at two Premiership clubs a step away from his dream and now he was on the other side of the ditch where football was soccer , gridiron was football ,rounders was baseball and they hadn't even heard of League.
Sighing he stopped the ball in its tracks and considered the conversation he'd had earlier in the day
The local high school coach had been VERY keen on one of the school newest students to play for the team, the school had an outside chance of winning the state championship which would mean exposure for the team and an increased likelihood of scholarships. With Chris playing they had more than an outside chance
Chris had been adamant he was NOT going to play high school soccer in America and nothing was going to make him change his mind.
The coach had other ideas and had made a few calls.
Chris flicked the ball up to his head and held it there for serveral seconds until the sound of a car stopping outside his house reached him , a door opened and closed and Chris flicked the ball down to the outside of his foot , his parents weren't home and they knew no one anyway.
The sound of footsteps reached him someone was walking along the driveway.
