Friday evening, eight year old Jesse Arbogast of Ocean Springs Miss. was attacked by a three meter Bull shark while swimming at Gulf Islands National Seashore. The shark bit off and ingested the boys arm.

His uncle (get this) GRABBED THE SHARK AND WRESTLED IT TO SHORE! Ranger Jared Klein then shot the shark four times and pried open the beasts mouth with his baton. Volunteer firefighter/EMT Tony Thomas extracted the severed arm with a clamp and forcips!

The boy was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pennsacola about thirty minutes after the attack, he arrived with no pulse and no blood pressure. The arm was reattached and he is expected to regain full use of it after some extensive rehab and therapy (12-18 months). There is some worry of brain damage however.

Amazing story.... i've done some crazy shit, but i'm not sure I would hook on to a shark that size. The uncle, without question "has got a pair".

yeppers he does have a major pair of brass ones,,, I've landed 3 foot sand sharksthat are fairly non aggressive while surf fishhing in NC,,, not a picnic at all,,, but barehanded????

The guy deserves a freaking medal.

This is a very nice thread. A hero of humanity. I like it. This is the kind of thing I would love to hear about every day.

He is probably thinking to himself.
"I can't believe i fucking did that!"

Of coarse i informed my nephew that i'd throw the shark a bottle of steak sauce!

If anyone or anything is harming a kid while myself or any of my family is around some major pain is coming down.

Yep, I read this in the Sunday paper, pretty damn brave of the man. But he probably didn't realize what he was doing until he was done either. Some times you just don't think when someone is being attack, you just act on it.

me again .... posted before i was done ... just wanted to add ....i hope the boy pulls through ........

You're right, Expertise. This man is a genuine hero! First for saving the boy and then for chasing the shark and wrestling it to shore! Wow.

It is amazing what superhuman feats we can accomplish from the rush of adrenaline.

I hope this child will survive - the news reports said that because of the tremendous amount of blood loss (he had to have 30 pints in surgery) his brain, kidneys and other organs have been critically injured and severely compromised. (the re=attachment of the arm was quite successful)

Me? I don't have balls. I'm a girl, silly! :) But, I would probably have fainted had I seen a shark that close. Gosh, I have been known to scream when a piece of seaweed gets tangled up in my legs!!!
