So, why hasn't Timex joined the cell phone era?

Granted, many consider Timex watches obsolete (Indigo watches are Timex). But some folks still wear them. I always wear a cheap one at work, particularly in situations where my cell phone could be damaged. And Timex stock market shares are declining.

I suppose what I am really asking is, 'Why hasn't Timex evolved to join with a company that makes cell phones or make cell phones themselves?'

Gee, that's exactly what Timex should do: enter an extremely volatile electronics segment far removed from their core competency. Good thinking, sport!

Lupus strikes again.

I use a Timex for running. I could use a cell phone, but I wouldn't want to get sweat on it, and it's way too big to hold and run.

I prefer my wristwatch to a cell phone. There are more times when I need to know when 60 seconds have passed that the exact minute of the day.

My favorite watch of all time was a Pulsar Chronograph, which could give me times down to a tenth of a second. I was at a parking lot slalom a few years ago and the Marshall dropped his stop watch. There wasn't a spare on the site, so I stepped up with my Pulsar and the competition continued. My cell phone has a stopwatch feature, but it's clumsy and requires two hands to operate.

Now that the technology is finally miniaturized enough, I'm surprised that Timex or some other watch-maker hasn't brought the Dick Tracy wrist-watch communicator into the real world (after nearly a century of waiting. :p)

Seriously, a Cellphone that straps to your wrist would be much harder to lose or butt-dial.

I never take a cell phone when I jog. I wear the Timex too. Timex is the only watch I have ever worn for work or sports. I always take it off when I get home. Sometimes, I intentionally take them both off because they can be annoying and cause tension.

Heh. I still have a Ceasars Palace quartz gold tone watch my dad gave me back in the 80s. For years I thought it was very expensive until I took it to a jeweler to retune and add a link to the band, then was told it was worth only $30.:D I only take it out of its' case for formal events. Someone always comments on how beautiful and expensive the watch looks every time I wear it. If only they knew........

Back to the topic. I thought a company like Timex would have diversified or evolved to partner with a cell phone company by now to keep up with the times. Especially consider most cell phones include the same features watches have. But watches cannot do what cell phones can.

I got beat up for wearing a watch in 5th grade. Never really understood the reasoning for that, but I haven't worn one since. :(

You just made the case for why they haven't. And you have no clue.

It wasn't because of the watch.

I think everyone here knows that.

And with Siri style technology, you could just talk to it...

I was going to say something about Dick Tracy too.
