So, what's to be done?

If anything?

Is the fact that the AH is perceived as a mini-GB to a lot of people a big problem?

Is it something that needs doing something about?

Is it just the way things go, when a group of encouragable flirts get together?

Would an Authors' Q&A thread help?

Weekly writing exercises?

In house critiquing?

Do we ban politics?

Do we ban religion?

Do we ban (God help me) FLIRTING???

This is an open board, a public board, and anybody, absolutely anybody, should feel able to post here, especially fellow Lit authors. Do you think people are put off posting here, because of the way it is. If the answer to that question is, "Yes," then something does need to be done, surely.

Has anybody got any answers?

Anybody want a shag?

Lou ;)

I think they should combine the AH and the GB. *shrug* Leave a FAQ for those with questions.

To me, the Ah is different than the Gb in the fact the community is smaller. there is a core of writers who come here and a few readers, but that core, while it changes some remains remarkably intact.

I thik the resemblence right now is due to the shared pain of so many here who were hoping for kerry victory. AS the pain subsides, I think the political and religious threads will fade a bit. AS nano comes to an end and the attention of so many of the authors here becomes less focused and more difuesed, I think you will see the writing threads pick back up.

Just my 2 cents.

What, you mean us mix with "them". Ye Gods.

I'd miss the AH. :(

Do you think NaNoWriMo and the regular competition threads and the talking about feedback and the odd writerly question that does come up would survive amongst the rest of the stuff on the GB?

Maybe the problem is that we are all a bit too clicky (can't be arsed to spell cliquey)?

I, for one, try not to be, but sometimes it's difficult not to be drawn to chatting amongst friends sometimes. Maybe if that was curbed, would it help?

Then again, that would be sad, too.

Lou :(

Not a damn thing.

If people don't like how this part of the board is working, they can go somewhere else.

It's a free country (or whatever).

I always have one board I spend 99% of my time on. I've changed that board twice since I first started hanging on the 'Net.

Both times for the same reason. Every post to me on my old boards started with "Rob, you ignorant slut!"

So I went away and came here.

I like all the non-writing stuff that goes on here. At least most of the people, even those I disagree with, are intelligent, articulate and polite.

I'd fancy a shag.

Serious reply to post will arrive when I've had something to eat.

But in short terms: A few political/flirting/nonens threads is not going to kill anybody. But IMHO people are posting a bit too many threads about it, instead of feeding the existing ones. I'm gone for three hours, and find that interresting writing-related (sometimes a bit far fetched, but I'm not picky) threads have falled from the front page before I even get to havea first look at them, because there are a bunch of fresh "Bush sucks", "Say WOOT here" or "I like cheeze" threads that has the same basic content as 20 other threads going on.

That's my 2c on the subject. A whole dollar will follow later. :)

Edited to add: 'Say WOOT' should be replaced with 'Say WHOOP'. I was in the lingo of a different forum. :D

Eeesh woman! Let me see if I can address all your questions.

Yup, combine "us" with "them." Fresh blood and all that. Besides, we aren't exactly small in number; I feel fairly confident we won't fade into the background of the GB. In fact, we may convert a few to our ranks. We'll certainly spice up the blood-line, less inbreeding.

The odd writerly question gets buried here rather fast, I imagine it would be the same in the GB with the same opportunity of it ever getting answered.

I frankly don't see that we're that much different than the GB. Because of that, I don't think we'll "loose" anything but a niche in cyber-space. We'll be moved to a new niche. New digs. Groovy.

Oops, naughty Lou. ;)

Yeah, I get your point, Liar. Perhaps we all are too quick to start up new threads, as opposed to trying to keep others on topic and just discussing all relevant things in those. I am such a culprit for doing that.

Lou

P.S. See you for a shag in five minutes, up the alley?

But will you do all the packing?

You sure know how to sweet talk a bloke.

Blokes need sweet talking? That's news to me.

Lou ;)

P.S. Bugger, I've been and gone and hijacked my own thread, with my usual silly flirting. :D

This is the second or third thread about how diverse and entertaining the AH has become, and I think Colleen is right, and so is Bad_Girl.

Don't fix what ain't broken.

I'll try to do better, though.

I do go on at length in the discussion threads you speak of. I didn't at first, but since I've come to give a shit about the people here, I've let them have more of my mind. The people in those threads writing all that disgusting tripe no one likes do seem to be enjoying it, though.

I tried to have that kind of talk on the GB and it vanishes to the third page before anyone can respond.

But I'll shut up more. What the hell, it's no big deal to do that.

Lit draws all kinds of people interested in porn, and I think the Forums reflect that. For the writers, there is Story Feedback, Poetry Feedback, Editor's Forum, Story Discussion and Story Ideas.

I always saw the AH as a virtual cafe for porn writers. Take a break, pull up a chair. Drink some coffee. Talk about writers block or sex or ideas or whatever's on your mind. Flirt a little. Drink some more coffee. Write a little. Feed your soul. Bare your soul. Write some more.

Nothing wrong with that.

Cant, I completely agree with you.

This thread was my facetious way of highlighting what's being said in other threads.

Here is my honest opinion on the matter...

I love it here, I don't think anything should change. If somebody doesn't like it, they know where the door is. Or, perhaps a little less harsh: do something about it themselves.

Nobody should have to change who they are and how they post.

Lou

P.S. I HAVE got to say this... in my opinion, the most pseudo-GB thread here right now is the Isolated Blurt Thread. Hmmm...

Cant, I mean no offense, but you've been a member since April. You've no idea what the AH was like when it was still the "AH" and not the mini-GB. Many others don't see a problem with the AH because they've only known it the way it is now, too.

Finally, two people who "get" it.

Well, either that or this was just a personal attack.

I remember it.

I had to shoe-horn my way in.

Maybe change the "definition" description to more what it IS...

We can't even agree on what it is. Not sure that would help.

ooh Cant ( I was going to PM this but everybody should see it)

Going on at length in a thread is no problem whatsoever, to me anyway, if I don't want to read it I won't, the same goes for threads I don't like the look of. But long posts to threads have no effect on other threads, whereas the number of new threads does. (I never even saw the Whoot thread or the Cheese one.)

Everybody loves Cant, in a paradoxical and diametrically opposite way as much as they love CV. That's the good thing about AH.

Waiting for a balanced answer to a sensitive question? Wait for Cant to post. Want the facts? Hang about for Harold. Bored and need distraction? Hold on for CV.

The writing threads will return. The newbie threads are always evident. The flirting is eternal. (just stop posting one fecking word at a time) Politics and religion are inherent in thinking boards, although logic has taken a back seat recently.

It's just a matter of having to wait for the turnaround.

Intimidating would-be posters will always occur at whatever part of the turn the AH presents itself, that's just timing.

Gauche
