So there you have it. Sharon's own party, the Likud, voted yesterday never to allow the creation of a Palestian State.
This is the true face of Zionism and until there's an election and the extremists are kicked out, the true face of Israel.
So all you Sharon supporters, what say you now?
Is Sharon's war still self defence against a terrorist threat or is it in reality a war of occupation?
At a moment when Sharon, bowing under pressure from America and the rest of the world, has called off the planned incursion into the Gaza Strip, his own party decides to openly fly the flag of extremism.
The vote is certainly going to make it harder for Washington to "build on the current military lull and to begin serious political negotiations toward a Middle East settlement." (NYTimes
And the vote is bound to "anger the Arab world by suggesting that Palestinians should not expect a state to emerge from negotiations with Israel, and thereby giving an advantage to those groups, like the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, which argue for continued armed struggle." (NYTimes)
The vote is "a real slap in the face" for President Bush, who has spoken in favor of a Palestinian state" (NYTimes)
Now I'm looking forward to all those posters who supported Sharon to come forward and explain how they think the Likud Party is on the side of right...
But to show you I bear no real malice here's a bit of background information to the vote:
"The Likud Party vote tonight was orchestrated by Mr. Sharon's rival, the former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who wants to lead the party into elections. Mr. Netanyahu had bet on the Sharon government lasting only a few months, and he remains popular within Likud, taking a stance even further to the right of Mr. Sharon's and calling for the expulsion or elimination of Mr. Arafat." (NYTimes"
