So there you have it. Sharon's own party, the Likud, voted yesterday never to allow the creation of a Palestian State.

This is the true face of Zionism and until there's an election and the extremists are kicked out, the true face of Israel.

So all you Sharon supporters, what say you now?

Is Sharon's war still self defence against a terrorist threat or is it in reality a war of occupation?

At a moment when Sharon, bowing under pressure from America and the rest of the world, has called off the planned incursion into the Gaza Strip, his own party decides to openly fly the flag of extremism.

The vote is certainly going to make it harder for Washington to "build on the current military lull and to begin serious political negotiations toward a Middle East settlement." (NYTimes

And the vote is bound to "anger the Arab world by suggesting that Palestinians should not expect a state to emerge from negotiations with Israel, and thereby giving an advantage to those groups, like the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, which argue for continued armed struggle." (NYTimes)

The vote is "a real slap in the face" for President Bush, who has spoken in favor of a Palestinian state" (NYTimes)

Now I'm looking forward to all those posters who supported Sharon to come forward and explain how they think the Likud Party is on the side of right...

But to show you I bear no real malice here's a bit of background information to the vote:

"The Likud Party vote tonight was orchestrated by Mr. Sharon's rival, the former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who wants to lead the party into elections. Mr. Netanyahu had bet on the Sharon government lasting only a few months, and he remains popular within Likud, taking a stance even further to the right of Mr. Sharon's and calling for the expulsion or elimination of Mr. Arafat." (NYTimes"

Listening to the news last night, the commentator remarked that the decision was unlikely to have any effect on any peace process, that it was only a statement of intent rather than a commitment of goverment policy. The commentator also doubted whether Sharon would need to be bound by such a decision. A bit like your view of the the PLO charter!

In addition it was well known that Sharon was against a vote taking place on this issue as he knew Netanyahu would win and use as a platform for election.

What you have to remember is that although Likud voted this way they are not a majority government, they are part of a coalition and will have to recognise the views of their partners.

All true but it doesn't get away from the fact that it indicates the true viewpont of Sharon's Party. All the killings of the past month being gift wrapped as self-defence againsy terrorism has now been shown, as many of us had already concluded, to be nothing but a pack of lies.

If it hadn't been for external pressure Sharon would still be in there all guns blazing...

As you say they run a coalition but even if the other major party, the Labour Party, leaves, the coalition would still be able to provide government with the support of a few extremist minority religious parties.

Parties who are more than likely to follow Likud's lead.

I read it at Reuters last night. I wasn't surprised. Men are power hungry. Once they have domain over land they are not going to want to give it up easily. Jews are no different than anyone else.

I'm sorry Blue, but I believe you're wrong. The Likud has harmed the peace process because the contention is over land. They will not allow the Palestinians to have any of it so the Palestinians will continue to fight against them.

From Reuters:

"European officials also said it would harm the search for peace and the United States, Israel's strongest ally, reiterated that it supported an eventual Palestinian state. "

This may be the viewpoint of his party but it is not his view. I don't want to be seen to defend the ass but he was against this being raised in the first place.

If Likud gets into bed with the extreme minority parties (which they are reluctant to do) then they may just lose the next election. Its not just no Palestinian homeland that those parties will demand. They will want to turn Israel into an extreme religious state. A real election loser.

Again true.

But I contend it is Sharon's viewpont. Otherwise he would never be the leader of a party which has always declared that there is no place in Palestine for the two states.

The only reason he's backpedalled at the moment is because of the external pressure he's been experiencing.

I reckon America after that slap in the face she received during Powell's visit, has started raising the ante. And with Bush cosying up to Crown Prince Mohammed recently Sharon has to make noises about peace negotiations.

Even going as far as saying that he thought the formation of a State of Palestine was inevitable.

Now that's a new one I hadn't heard before today.

But then that's why I think it's all window dressing. At the moment Sharon has been kicked in the teeth by his own party. But that is an internal stategic move by Netanyahu. Behind it all they still all think that the destruction or the expulsion of the Palestinians is the only solution.

An election will be interesting. Netanyahu is even more firmly entrenched in the no Palestinan state camp. If he gets in then there is going to be hell to pay.

The great paradox here is the Israeli people themselves. Over 50% of them supported their goverments incursions into the the Palestinian areas but an even greater number support the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Will Israelis support 'Gentle Ben', as he was once known, knowing that he will never accede to their wishes?

Sorry KM, I missed your earlier post. I was only repeating the thoughts of a commentator on the peace process. My own view is that at the moment there is no peace process to be affected. Unless Israel turns away from Likud and the extreme right, then there is not likely to be a peace process in the near future.

I dont hate jews. I just wish they didnt exist.:)
Jews have lived in Syria (a muslim ajority country) for thousands of years, fearing no one). where else can jews live in peace and harmony.
Ofcourse an islamic state guaranteeing them a safe place and to be treated justly under islamic law (sharia).

You are living in a dream world.

Your an idiot Yoyotwat. You murder your women. We arm ours.

  • Sex-selective abortion (son preference) to prevent the birth of girls, resulting in a “missing” population of girl children. In China, the number of male births per 100 female births increased from 108 in 1986 to 109.7 in 19911 and is estimated to be close to 120 today (the norm is 105 female births per 100 male births).
  • Female infanticide and differential access to food and medical care for girl infants. In a baseline study conducted in Narangwal, India, pre-intervention data indicated that boys were breastfed longer, had higher levels of nutritional intake, were taller and heavier, and received medical care more quickly than girls.
  • Child marriage. A 1993 study of 5,000 women in the state of Rajasthan in India revealed that 56 percent had married before age 15; 17 percent before age 10.
  • Female genital cutting (FGC) and other harmful traditional practices. Between 85 and 115 million women and girls, most of whom live in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, have undergone female genital cutting; every year, 2 million more undergo the procedure.
  • Dating and courtship violence (e.g., acid throwing, date rape, etc.). In 1999, in Bangladesh, there were 168 reported acid attacks against women, up from 117 in 1997.
  • HIV/AIDS infection as the result of unwanted and unprotected sex. In parts of Africa and India, young women are coerced into having unprotected sex with older men in exchange for school fees or other economic resources. The men also seek out younger girls in the belief that they may not yet be infected with HIV and are therefore “safe” partners.
  • Trafficking in girls. Each year, an estimated 1 to 2 million girls and young women are trafficked around the world for forced labor, domestic servitude or sexual exploitation. An estimated 500,000 are trafficked out of countries of Eastern Europe and the CIS.
  • Physical, sexual and emotional abuse. Worldwide, an average of one in every three women has experienced violence in an intimate relationship. In Egypt, 35 percent of women report having been beaten by their husband during their marriage.
  • Marital rape; dowry abuse and dowry murders; “honor killings.” In 1999, in Pakistan, the human rights com- mission reported more than 1,000 women were victims of “honor killings;” in 1998, in Jordan, the Public Security Department reported 20 “honor killings.” In 1998, in India, 5,500 dowry murders were reported (hundreds more were reported as “accidents” or suicides); convictions of the perpetrators were handed down in only 35 percent of the cases.

Show me one place where I said I was Jewish.

There is nowhere. I repeat you are a fucktard!

Yoyotwat comes and goes. You can't argue with him on his post level because he's so utterly ethno-centric that his race could give everyone Eubola and it would be a "good" thing to him. He doesn't recognize logic as it applies to him, nor does he understand the concept of legitimacy beyond people who are exactly like he is. He's even caste-centric.

He's a doctoral dissertation in one person.

Which is the only thing I'm even going to attempt to touch on, in all that bullshit you spouted. I do appreciate the chuckle your comeback gave to me though, I needed it. :D
