In ATL:

It's so cold I built a fire and the smoke refuses to go up the chimney

It's so cold we actually had a trace of the "s" word last night

Actually, in Maryland, not very.

None of the *s* word, but LOTS of the *r* word. It's been raining all night and most of today. But it's in the mid 50s, so it's staying rain,

Here in balmy Charlotte NC and surrounding areas

It rained cats and dogs, even a thunderstorm last night. Cold and windy, supposed to get colder as the day goes, even had ice this morning (around 11 as I was driving home from Columbia SC) but right now this minute is like 45 with a wind chill of 29 and tonight it is supposed to be in the mid 20's. BRRRRRRRRR for here, but not for where I am from originally (Minnesota, southern MN to be exact)

In Knsas...it is 13 and the wind chill makes it around 10 below

Alittle chilly this morning it was a nice 28 degrees with a little dusting of snow on the ground great for AL as for the rest of the state, you have probably seen all of the destruction on CNN lucky that is in the central part of the state and away from me.

Too damn cold (9 degrees; wc -20) and too damn much snow (just spent three hours shoveling out the driveway and walks).

Well, in Phila this morning it was storming something fierce and a balmy 65 degrees. Now only a few hours later its 30 degrees and going lower

Unfortunately, where I live now, it just doesn't get cold as others understand the term.

However, if you want some good descriptions of how cold it can get, check out the stories about Paul Bunyan -- Especially "the winter of the blue snow"

The art of telling tall tales is obviously on the decline it seems. Hasn't anyone been so cold the had to build a second fire to thaw out the first one? Never been so cold you had to wait for spring for your conversations to thaw out?

right now its a shocking +18c which is well above normal of -2c for this time of year, I am just waiting for an unannounced cold snap and turn all the melting into ice.

79 for a high today--ain't life grand in S. Florida--

It is so cold here in Northeast Ohio, my car bitches at me when I try to start it. It is soooo bitterly horribly cold with this wind and lake effect snow (which only happens in 3 other places in the entire world) that schools are closing for cold days, not snow days. It is so cold that it was raining on Saturday, the temperature plunged on Sunday, so now my car is parked on ice 3 inches thick. yuck

19 degrees here with wind chills around 9. Thankfully my neighbor is driving the kids to school for me otherwise they would be standing at the bus stop.

I'm a little further north Than Juliangel, ir's 17 here. What the fuck is that all about? Have we pissed off God?

I don't know but I LOVED waking up yesterday and finding the dusting of snow. It was so pretty I just wish we had got more.

I had to drive my niece home yesterday and going through Snellville I thought of you cussing me for praying for the snow and bringing it to your yard. :D

LOL at least someone was thinking about me. I am just a yankee wanna be when it comes to the snow ;) Southern through and through and sweeter than honey (virtual and otherwise) :D

It' so cold the squirrels have frozen their nuts off.

Was that bad? That was bad wasn't it.

Chicago

ZERO (and that fahrenheit) Expecting 4-6" of snow on top of the 20" we received last week. For the trivia buffs, this is more snow (to date) in December since record keeping started in 1872. A "high" of 14 expected today.

Anybody else like Robert Service? He was a famous Yukon territory poet. I think you'll like this about being cold.

I knew that was The Cremation of Sam McGee before I checked it out. It's one of my favorite poems, along with The Shooting of Dan McGrew.

Thanks for the link, I've added it to my favorites so I can read it at leisure.

It has warmed up a bit in the last little while in Thunder Bay, eh Kat?

A week or so ago it was cold enough to freeze the nuts off a brass monkey. Now it's probably just cold enough to freeze the nuts off a.... tin monkey? ;)

Of course we've had more snow since it has warmed up. (I'm sure some of you southern folk will be amazed to know, but here it is often too cold to snow. If we've been in a lengthy cold snap, we are often relieved when it snows since that means it has warmed up a bit.)

We have that lake effect thing going on too. Lake Superior often keeps us a bit warmer in the dead of winter though. (I am tempted to debate this one though because getting off work near the waterfront at 4am and heading to the car it is DAYMN cold!) In the summer the lake keeps us cooler.
