Given the over usage of so, so and very, very to determine quantity of emotion in our political world these days, I thought this chart might be helpful to writers.

Personally, I would not describe a Very Powerful bang as "compelling".

I get the impression that this list is machine-drawn.

I have no idea. It was something someone sent me and I thought it was humorous after all the silly use of very, very and so, so by Trump. I suppose a very, powerful bang would be a blast or explosion.

Very nice but not very inclusive.

I'll try very hard to apply this.

But no mention of the Very pistol?

When i mentioned a Berry pistol at a boating safety meeting, one young lady asked with a straight face, "Blackberry or strawberry?"

When I replied, "Cherry red," she got a very confused look on her face. :D

Taking that explosive line a little.
The biggest natural bang on the planet was probably the eruption of Krakatoa in 1883.
The last bang was heard 3000 miles away.
I'd hardly call that "compelling."

One I don't like is "Very Unique". Something is either Unique, or it isn't.

I guess those would work in narrative. Even with most of my characters extended vocabulary, not many would use most of those words.

Is Police Academy part VII unique, as a movie?

In some ways, yes. It's the only Police Academy movie to feature Christopher Lee, it's the only Police Academy set in Moscow, it's the only movie to be the seventh in the Police Academy franchise. No other movie can claim any of those things.

At the same time, it recycles an awful lot from the previous six in the franchise. (Or so I'm told; I'm not masochistic enough to sit through the whole series.) In that regard, it's non-unique.

Uniqueness isn't a Boolean property; it depends on what property we're talking about. Anything can be made out as "unique" if you pick the right angle on it. So terms like "very unique" are handy for distinguishing things that are unique in many and important ways, from the Police Academy VIIs of the world.

So, just keep a browser tab open to a thesaurus for when you feel like saying "very"?

Nothing stopping me from putting "very" in front of one of the words in that right-hand column, either.

:p
