As I recall the UN only mandated that the Iraqis be expelled from Kuwait, The mandate didnt call for the overthrow of Saddam. While hindsite is always 20 / 20 it is disingenuous to "blame" Bush #1.

The two cultures coexisted without any undue fighting, until 1947. They never did like each other but the wholesale killing did not begin until the Israeli state was created. While for the most part the region is nothing but sand, the old human emotion was triggered when the sand box was given away; no one wnated it until it belonged to someone else.

Sorry, Bush the Elder did exactly the right thing. The 'resistance' was Shi'ah. They are at the very core of the Mid-eastern problems. At least the Sunni's believe in secularism.
