For a long time the way it worked on the general board is the cool kids engage in some hazing. Fair enough, but when someone new scores a debate point or two, or points out their hypocracy and cowardice, they retreat to the blurt thread, circle the wagons and commence with snide, passive aggressive comments and back-channel discussion about who the passive aggressive comments are about. ...teehee tee-hee.

They already had the general board lounge, it was just called the blurt thread. It was self-policing. The naming thing was the camek's nose under the tent. Gave outsiders a say and revealed a chink in the keyboard warrior armor. It obviously mattered.

Used to be that their obvious inside jokes and passive aggressive comments let them pick and choose who to shoulder out. Newbies didn't want to be the subject of those passive aggressive comments so they just steered clear until accepted by and welcomed into the thread.

Tag, and lately Eyer invading their domain cause another incarnation of dryerlint.

The whole thing is pretty funny when you consider we're talking about what? maybe eight to twelve people. Plenty of old timers come and go, interact with, or ignore the noobs as appropriate.

Lance is right. This move and the already blatent, selective moderation has branded that group. None of them get to tell anyone to buck-up, grow a thicker hide, or stop being "butt-hurt."

No, "we" don't have to behave..but some of us do.

Mild posts and entire treads are deleted or moved, within seconds sometimes, certainly within minutes. Definately not Laurel doing so. She has far to much on her plate for that level of hyper-vigilence.

Actual, offensive posts with account-bannable material in them are still there a full day after being reported.

I actually was looking forward to participating but won't do so any longer. I thought it might be nice to discuss some personal life and family issues that I no longer do. The consensus here is sharing petsonal details on the GB negates any claim of harrasment because the GB is knowm to be unmoderated.

Turns out, it isn't the level of moderation that is the problem; the problem is cultural..
