And my story has two views...

But it's still pending.

WTF?

Am I going crazy in thinking that it should be posted now? I think it's been nine or ten days.

I can't imagine the backlog is that bad right now.

Who thinks I should continue to wait, and who thinks I should try to submit my story again?

Patience is a virtue my friend. Just relax, it'll get posted eventually. I've had stories posted in three days and stories that posted in three weeks. There's a number of reasons why it's taking a while, but the fact that you have views is a sign that it's getting looked at and the site editors will make a decision on it very soon. Good luck. :)

My first few stories (under my alt) took two weeks to post. I remember it nearly flooring me when a story went up in ten days. Then a week. Now it's usually 6 days, even for .doc file submissions. Waiting is a bitch, isn't it?

I've had one story get rejected because it came in too short. I didn't bother resubmitting it, because there wasn't really any great way to pump it up without it *looking* added on to. However, it's got over 150 reads. At least someone's enjoying it!

A week to ten days is about normal as of late but a couple of days ago the Nude Day story contest started so it may be a little longer as those stories go first....

Hang in there, if you need to resubmit, they'll let you know....

Normally it takes about 7-10 days for a story to post, but now that you've asked the question, the rules have changed.

In order for your story to ever see the light of day, you now have to submit documentation, in triplicate, and in blue pen only, of your age, your citizenship, etc. Such documentation must be filled out while playing the Hallelujah Chorus on a kazoo, and accompanied by video of your performace to prove satisfaction of the requirements. Your first born child must accompany the said documentation, of course, as payment for the privilege of seeing your story on Lit.

Here's hoping you're not off-key.

*sigh*

I've had those two views for I dunno...

at least seven of the ten days. I was thinking that three days after I submitted it and got the views, that meant that someone was actually trying to do something about it. Now, seven days later, with nothing done, I'm not sure that those views I'm registering are quite accurate. Oh well.

I guess that means I need to submit another story so I can get the first-born off of the payroll....

Cloudy,
You forgot the $100 payment in Certified Funds to the submissions board prior to review after The Question.

Thank you DrummerBoy418. It seems like it's been awhile since someone asked THE QUESTION and we tend to get backed up. You got off light, by the way. :)

Relax first
Second welcome to Lit
Third you are a new author that right there means that you will not get posted as fast as say someone who already is alittle established
Fourth there is a contest in full swing and those stories will get viewed and posted before everyone elses because there is a time deadline on them
Fifth relax again and have a drink

To answer your "WTF?" It means that editors have looked at it. So, any day now.

find myself in a similar situation...

Not attending properly to the submission guidelines, I admit, I submitted a story that was under 750 words. As of today it has been rejected for that reason. Not sure I'd have bothered to do a word count anyway; if it isn't 750 words it's DARN close...

So here's the question. The piece is what it is; I don't feel like it would be helpful to pad it. Is there perhaps a category for pieces like this? I'm sorta fond of the piece, and moreover I sure would like to have it up and available to my enormous fan base.... (insert cutesy smiley icon of some sort here)

I just had one that took 8 days, the the next chapter was about 5. It'll be out now before you know it.

Unfortunately, not on Lit. Maybe you could add something of value to the story, not just pad it.

Put a wordy "Thank you, leave feedback" note on it?

Really? I had no idea they took that into account. I guess I lucked out, all of mine posted in 5 to 6 days (except the Earth Day one that posted in 2).

<--- suddenly feeling like a newbie again.

You forgot the chocolate clause. Things always go smoother with the addition of some of that creamy goodness. :cattail:

I was hoping that it would be assumed that I had already considered that particular option. Guess not.

No. If I'd thought I could lengthen it valuably, I wouldn't be asking the question in the first place. I'd just go do that.

I like it the way it is. It is as it should be.
If that is incompatible with the site, that's okay. I'll figure out something else to do with it.

Yeah, they do, Cerise.

Everytime I submit something I can almost hear the Editors screaming, "Oh My God. It's that Jackson Bitch again!"

I wonder if mine have been going up so fast because I'm showing skin?
*off to find naked pic so they'll go up even faster*

Both of mine so far have taken 10 or 11 days to go up. Also, it's normal to have a few views sitting there for a while. Once your story actually gets posted, you'll have several thousand views pretty quickly.

That depends on the category - I've got several that have been up for months and have less than 5000 views.

Write a little Forward By The Author talking about how you're writing this forward to fill the words requirement and that you don't think the story itself needs any more words and you hope your Beloved Readers enjoy it... :)

Wait until you have another shorter than necessary story and post them together.

Or; add lots of adverbs, replace full stops with conjunctions and add on all the elliptical parts of sentences. (eg "if it isn't 750 words it's DARN close..." to 750 words)

I understand not wanting to add to it, and only mentioned it because you brought up padding. At any rate, if it's close, others have mentioned some good ideas to add word count (e.g., author notes at the beginning and end). Good luck with it.
