So I'm not overly nice when it comes to Fire Ants. I Parboiled two racks of ribs tonight with a mix of Garlic, Onion and Crushed Red Pepper. (Also known as Capiscium.) After the ribs were Par Boiled I pulled them out and hit them with a rub of more Garlic and Onion. To the water I added more crushed red pepper and brought it to a boil again. This nice tasty soup I brought outside and poured slowly over a rather large Fire Ant Colony I found this afternoon. (An old Cajun cure for Fire Ants.) We shall see if this works.

I'll let you know how the ribs turn out. As for the ants? We'll have to ask the local lizards about that.

I don't have any commetns aobut the ribs. As for the fireants, try Amdro.

Well the ribs turned out too well. Out of two racks there are three ribs left for lunch tomorrow. (There was only my wife and myself eating these.) I'm ready to be rolled into the bedroom and left on the floor as I'm too well fed to lift my butt into bed. (One thing, I have got to either buy me or make me a smoke box for the grill. The last one burned out.)

As for the Fire Ants, I didn't see any movement by the nest today. Maybe I cooked them. (Normaly I use a diluted Diazanon mix so it gets down into the nest and wipes out the Queen.)

Seacat, be careful when mixin diazonan and ribs with garlic, it can make a noxious gas .................................. and everbody will leave the room.

SeaCat,
Save your money, the easiest and cheepest smoke box is foil wrap.
Make a pouch of wet wood chips and add dry ones on top. Pouch them up and poke holes in the foil.

Works great, when you have a big job like ribs, make up a couple and when the one is smoked out, add the second.

Have fun BBQin'

Hey thanks for the idea. (I was going to cut a coffee can in half and use that.)

Are you sure the ants died and didn't just move to a new spot like the bastard ants at my place do? I fucking hate fire ants.

I used to use diazanon for mole crickets and it does a good job. The Amdro [and there are cheaper imitations] looks like food to the fire ants. They take it down into the nest and store it and eat it. The poison does not work right away, so they keep eating it and even feeding it to the queen. Amdro was the only thing I ever found that would wipe out fire ants, although a big nest might need two or three applications.

I'll have to give it a try. I too hate the pesky little buggers.

Damn fire ants are tools of the devil, I tell ya. Been fighting them in my yard for 2 years. You win some, you loose some. I'm thinking napalm!

LOL
I know a guy who got so irritated he tried using Gasoline. Half his yard cooked and the ants still showed up.
