So I'm having a little problem with formatting errors or something...

Hi, I recently submitted a story which was accepted and then reported and taken down (for understandable reasons). I edited the story so as to better comply with the rules and re-submitted it. It passed inspection, but when it was posted it contained numerous formatting errors. The first part of the first page randomly stopped and then repeated. Then after the end of the story the entire story repeated again, as if someone had copy+pasted the entire thing right after itself.

None of those errors were in the story when I submitted it.

So, I submitted a new story titled the same as the old one with "EDITED" afterwards, as per the FAQ. Again with no errors. But today I log in and find that the Edited version is gone, and the story still has a repeat at the beginning.

What should I do now? Submit another edited version?

This was recently addressed in another thread. An edited story does not completely replace an existing story all at one time. You may need to wait another day, or at least a few hours, and check again.

If it still isn't correct, you should send a private message (PM) to Laurel -- you can use the link at the top right of this page, just make sure you have Private Messages enabled. Be specific, too.

To send a PM, click on the link at the upper right corner of the screen and put "Laurel" sans quotes in the To: field.

If your PMs aren't enabled, or you aren't sure if they are, click on "User CP" at the upper left of this page, then on "Edit Options" on the next page, then scroll down and click the box to Enable Private Messages.

From the sounds of things, Laurel may have goofed up the formatting. Give her a quick PM explaining the whole mess. Along with a link to the story. Also mention that you sent in an edited version.

For best results, I think, right after the step of seeing the format was messed up, you should have PMd the editor, Laurel, and directly explained the problem (and should do that now). This happens (passing stories is a humongous task here); it has happened to me; the quickest, most complete way I've gotten it solved was to go directly to the Web site editor via PM (although they have an e-mail reporting system, apparently it hasn't worked for years and they haven't bothered fixing it or deleting it).

The problem has been resolved. Looks like all I needed to do was wait.

The cache the site is behind does some strange things for a while when you edit and already-posted story.

The one good thing about the queue being 5+ days long is that your story is typically outside the 'honeymoon' period where it gets most of its views before an edit that shows up wonky for a few hours can make people go
