... and my city's pretty much under water. What an interesting end to the week I spent touring the country with my family.

I've never been this glad that I live on a hill, because my house is one of the few completely unaffected by the flood that's been going on. Downtown has been evacuated, most of my friends have been volunteer sandbaggers for days, are trying to save what they can from the house they had to abandon, or are housing others who have lost their homes. It seems that there are more streets closed than are open right now - it's a bit difficult to get places currently. My parents were barely able to find a hotel room because everywhere is full of people whose houses were flooded. In front of my sister's college dorm, people are canoeing in the parking lot.

So... me and mine are alright, in case anyone was wondering. But the city as a whole is basically fucked.

Please take care and be careful. Tragedy can bring out the best and the worst of humanity.

Glad you are OK, I was wondering about you :D
What with all of Sarahhs tornado trouble, thought you might have got some of that
What you found is bad enough! :(

Thank you.

There's already a curfew because from what I gathered, people have been looting the businesses downtown. I want to volumnteer to sandbag tomorrow, but I'm a bit scared that the levee might break just as I'm working by it. All in all, quite a different experience.

A tornado was predicted for yesterday as well. People were pretty nervous about that, but it didn't end up hitting. If the levees do break, three of my friends will have to stop worrying about pumping out the basement and start swimming for their lives.

I've never ever been so glad to live on a hill.

Having grown up in the desert things like flooding and such are so foreign to me. It must be absolutely horrifying to see your life get washed away.

Thank you.

Good to hear you're safe jen.

Just watch it 'round those levees. ;)

The town where I grew up flooded really bad one year, but we were on a hill as well. I'm sorry to hear about your friends and neighbors, but it's good that everyone is trying to take care of each other. Glad that you're OK, just make sure you boil all the water you use. :rose:

Damn, you guys are having some fine old times weatherwise right now!

Glad you're OK, Jen. Yeah, boil that water and stock up on insect repellant - the mosquitoes and such will multiply in coming weeks!

Thanks all.

I'll be sure to be careful. We've got every available container in the house filled with water, and so far, the water treatment plant is working, though that might be subject to change in the near future, depending on about three more inches of water, or so we're told.

There is the good wet and the not so good wet. I am tired of the not so good wet.

*Snuggle Jen* Be careful. You're one of my fave Litsters and I don't wanna lose you.

Opposite to most exhortations, if you want to go help, go help! Safety is over-rated. If you die trying, you can go to your grave with pride. (And anyway, the chances are that you won't :))

Meantime, I'm glad I live on at least a bit of a hill. :)

For you, :rose::rose::rose:
