So I Got a Ticket

A few weeks ago.

I ran down to a local Subway shop to fetch myself some lunch. One of the few times I actually took the time for lunch.

Now, I could have drove back onto a very busy street, and performed a U turn in a heavily congested area at a very busy traffic signal. But I chose to go down the side street and do a U-turn where there is no traffic and then catch the signal.

And so I did.

Then...I got pulled over. Seems I did a U-turn in the only place in Florida where I am not supposed to.

SO the cop comes up and asks for my liscense and proof of insurance.

Gave it to him.

He then asked me how long I had been living in XXXXXX, Florida.

I don't have anything on my car that says I live in XYZ, Florida. But he knew...cuz he had already ran my plates.

See, I updated my car insurance which automatically updates mt DMV info...but...

I didn't get a replacement drivers liscense with my new address.

SO, he asked me if I knew why he pulled me over. And I didn't.

He pointed out that I had made a U turn where it was prohibited. I told him that I must have made that illegal tirn 6 or 8 times in the last six months not knowing.

So...he was gonna let me off....

Of the Illegal U turn citation, which would have cost me points (WTF is that?).
And he gave me a ticket for not having my correct address on my drivers liscense.

Bottom line...$73.50

Plus $10 for a new liscense. AND I had to mail a copy of my new liscense in to prove that I had updated it...which the DMV already had.

BUT....I waited till a few days before the ticket was due to mail it in.

When I did....I used a stamp with insufficient postage...but didn't find this out till I was mailing another letter.

So I went online and paid the ticket AGAIN cuz I wasn't sure if the letter would be returned or not.

Two days ago I got a letter from the court with my check inside. They said they couldn't cash my check cuz I had not signed it. This is the first time I have ever forgotten to sign a check. But no problem...they had recieved my copy of my new drivers liscense and recieved payment for my ticket online.

So no further action was needed.

Signed

(They forgot to sign the letter) :D

That seems like a big fine for not having your right address on your driver's license. I have the wrong address on mine. I notified the DMV when I moved into this address, almost three years ago, but they have never issued a new license. They probably will in a year when I renew it.

That sucks. I looked on my Arizona license and noticed that mine is good until 2043. Is that a typo? lol In California they expired after, like, five years if I remember.

They probably figure, if you chose to live in Arizona you aren't moving anytime soon!

But that does sound pretty long, mine in Ontario is 2011 and its a year old. Alot can change in 36 years!!!!

I used to live in AZ and if I remember right, the licenses are good until your 60 or something like that but you have to have the pic redone every 10 yrs I think.

Lol, sorry but when I changed my address, the dmv up here gave me a sticker to put on the back of my license that I could write my new address on, lol. Though that was ten years ago. Things might be stricter now.

A friend of mine told me he got pulled over for speeding once and got off scott free because he told the officer he'd just moved into his new apartment and didn't have the new address with him. :p Lucky bastard.

I live in a somewhat smaller community than I lived in when in Southern California and we're not surrounded by a patchwork of other cities so there's a sense of seclusion I love. I went to Vegas a month ago to visit a friend in the hospital and, after being back in a big city, I'll NEVER move back, to Southern California or any big city. What a fucking headache.

Misty, you actually got a ticket?

Have you learned nothing from Lit? Just have a threesome with the cop and his female partner and you get out of it. :D
