Someone just emailed me to inform me that they rated my story a 1 because I forgot to include the chapter number in the title. They took it really personally, apparently.

I am not sure, I think Zeb has a point if he doesn't let them get to him he is unaffected by their jibes. Also the way he puts it indicates that he might write stuff into his stories aimed at winding them up.

Actually the people I would like to wind up are the 'holier than thou' brigade, you know the ones the people who consider anything other than the missionary position to be perverted. I imagine them accidentally reading one of my stories and becoming indignant about it when really what is going on is that they are pissed at themselves for getting turned on by it.

I think holier than thou on this site constitutes a bit more than missionary I mean it is a sex site. However there are factions here.

Incest is really funny because it is easily the top viewed and voted category amongst viewers (most anon as well incest is a dirty little secret a guilty pleasure) but at the same time the most reviled.

I think some authors think less of Incest writers as well as some BDSM-that to me is divided there is "vanilla" BDSM and then hardcore the hardcore falls into the reviled. I think that I am not the only one who gets a little put off with non consent. So I think that those categories authors get put down a bit by some of the highbrow types.


Honestly in the AH I don't really see it although I have heard comments that the incest audience is the easiest to please and to write. I am not sure about that as I think every category has "formula" stories that are easy enough to keep popping off but that's just me.

If you are brave and want to do some winding up and don;t mind taking a beating or getting into a dog fight go into the GB and talk about incest or maybe Gay male or some cross dressing. They are mostly failed politicians and Rush Limbaugh wannabe's over there and most are only on a sex site because the regular chat rooms kicked their lame asses off.

I got one a few months ago from someone who says they like my series but does not like the BDSM sex. The guy went onto to bitch me out about how I had the brother tie his sister to the bedpost and kick her legs out from under her causing her arms to bend back painfully (before anyone says it, it is consensual and I describe that she moaned as the mixed sensation of pleasure and pain flowed through her)

When he was done bitching me out he uttered these classic words:

"That is certainly no way to treat your sister!"

Not really, I am a little sensitive it the truth be known and I do take things personally from time to time although I am definally working on this and my level of self acceptance now has helped in this regard.

Not to be rude, or to imply you deserved a 1 vote, but the story chapter is a detail you shouldn't leave out.

I understand this is a website, and that most writers here don't take it real seriously, but if you're gonna post it, and come to the AH (unless things have changed, the people here consider themselves at least potential writers, in the very real sense) then presenting the reader with proper detail, beyond getting the title correct in fact, should be something that comes automatically.

I'm not saying you don't fit in, or aren't a good writer (or are, for that matter, I have yet to sample your work) just pointing out that the basics are the basics for a reason. They should be automatic.

I've messed up titles here--did so recently. I think anyone is capable of doing that. One factor alone, like this, doesn't, I think, justify a 1 zap of the whole effort. This was the commenter's bad.

That's exactly what I thing happens in LW. They get all turned on and suddenly the guilt crushes them and they puke out a nasty comment.

Well, this story was my first submission and leaving out the chapter number was definitely an oversight on my part. I'll admit to my mistake, it just seemed a little odd to me to get riled up and call me stupid and imply that I was giving a "fuck you" to the reader by not including it (which is what the commenter said I was doing).

I've submitted an edit with the proper chapter title added in -- chalking it up to a learning experience.

Exactly -- if he rated the story a 1 on its own merits, then cool, whatever... can't please everyone. Rating it a 1 based on a formatting error seems a trifle excessive. But he didn't mention anything about the story, save that I was a giant asshole for not adding a chapter number on the end.

Oh well.
