He was getting an MRI and some "real thinker" had left an oxygen bottle near enough the machine to magnetically suck it inside and bash the poor kids head in.

All in view of his parents too.

He was 3 or 6 depending on the report.

This my friends is exactly why I am for cloning and stem cell research.

These parents could have their boy back - sort of.

Not everything is funny, Sparks.

Sorry. I know you don't mean it. But I can't help hoping no one will go off on this premise. Back to the Sparky's Dick threads....

I have a friend watching her baby die a slow death.
Sometimes I wake up with nightmares about something happening to my precious star.
My heart goes out to those people.
Sorry DCL.
Had to comment.

I heard that story. Tragic isnt it.

But cloning would not give them their son back. Just a new child, A Blank slate to start over with.

Nothing could heal that hurt.

Is it my imagination or are things running slow?

Sorry Dix but to be clear here....

I wasn't trying to be funny.

I really think that "this kind of tragic case" is what does warrent cloning research.

Of course a clone would not eradicate this horrible tradgidy. But I think (at least for me) it would help to lesson the time of greif.

I did use the "sad" sunny face you know. If I were joking - I'd have used the "stupid grin face."

no, it would be grotesque to try and replicate the same boy who died

It makes me think of that story (and later Twilight Zone episode) The Monkey's Paw....

Be careful what you wish for

What's so grotesque about it?

I have an infant son - who to me is perfect - a perfect blend of his mother and I.

Heaven forbid - of course I don't even like thinking about it. (Yet living in NYC I think about "it" in a precausionary manner every day.) Anything would ever happen to my son - our son.

But if it did - I would of course "want him back." Him - the perfect boy we created via our love and commitment.

Why is "wanting him back" (or as close a boy, a person, a son - a possible) such a grotesque thing?

I think it's a beautiful thing that I would want him back - not some other kid - him - the perfect one I had unfortunately lost.

I don't think "wanting him back" is the grotesque part here Sparkster. I think the grotesque part is to actually think there is a process that would actually "return" him to you and Mrs. Sparkster.

if you recreate the same kid physically, you may forever be trying to shove him or her into the same molds as your previous child, trying to recreate the same personality, maybe even calling it by the same name. It would not work because each child would be different, different experiences, different outlook. It would increasingly not be the same child you had before. It could not be, anymore than identical twins are exactly alike inside.

Maybe you would not be like that, but you know damn well many parents are that screwed up.

Nah not me.....

Only people of low intellect might do something that inane.

It would always be crystal clear to me - that - my new son - is a son, a person, unto himself and would be treated as such.

Fact is, I have lived a relative expereince - you see our infant son, now 17 months (the uber perfect one) is a surviving identical twin. His brother lost to us about 7 months in due to very rare complications. We should have 2 perfect pains - but unfortunately we could only take one home with us.

I wish I could have him back.

Here's wild man..... hmmmmm? I don't see how to post a pic? What happened?

Ah. What we need is a system of semaphore flags.

semaphore n. 1. A visual signaling apparatus with flags, lights, or mechanically moving arms, as one used on a railroad. 2. A visual system for sending information by means of two flags that are held one in each hand, using alphabetic code based on the position of the signaler's arms.

Don't tell me I'm the only one. ;)

no!

That's one reason why I'm against human cloning. The parents wouldn't have a copy of the unfortunate kid, just a blank slate, as YoungGun observed. But THINKING they've made a copy would really cause them to fuck up the poor newcomer, wouldn't it? It's bad enough that parents try to get their kids to follow in their own footsteps, let alone those of a dead sibling.

Given how stupid people can be, how could cloning not turn into a hideous mall culture nightmare? Imagine the ads on late night TV!

First off - cloning kids.....

would surely only be affordable to the rich - the smart - well then again - there's PeeDiddy.

Maybe yer right.

there is a cloning infomercial running through my head.....makes me want to go herd goats in Mongolia
