It's good to see the spirit of free enterprise and technological advancement is alive and well in the world with the developments in Americas Cup racing yachts.
But isn't it like someone shoving the rough end of a pineapple up your ass to see you are being killed by a country with no sea. Oooh, thats tough ..... not that the US didn't throw enough money at it.
Perhaps Bush can go and bomb the bastards but then they don't have any oil either!

most interesting.............

not too many sports which involve vehicles or such...........where the technology is allowed to almost run free..........but it seems to come down to a chance positon in the water........relative to the wind or whatnot........and it's over.........but I agree.......sailboats in Switzerland?..............who'd of thought................

greybeard

But the Swiss? Aren't they into cuckoo clocks and avalanches.

They're also rich. And money is what you need to come up with a winning boat.

OK, a good team too, but they need plenty of training time together.

As someone who races sailboats every week during the summer months I can attest to the fact that there's more than just technology that goes into it. We all race boats that are the same and of the stoneage variety (hulls were designed in the 50s). Everyone has the same basic boat, same size sails etc. It comes down to crew, set up and A LOT of luck with the wind. Some nights you take first or second, others it's DFL (Dead Fucking Last). In some races going off on a different tack from the rest of the fleet can make you go from first to last in the space of half a mile (which is a long way when you only go 7 knots top speed).

I only race 'em, can't watch it on TV.

But its the mix of technology , the elements of nature and human endeavour that make competitive yachting such a challenge. When the racings all over, the cup will probably stay where it belongs in the South Pacific, sorry switzerland.

Hey stop yer whining! hehe

we won it 20 years ago and have done nothing since :)

*wanders off singing "i come from a land downunder...where women blow and men chunder"*

Did she spit it out or swallow?

I know, I know, a crappy attempt at humour but it's the best I can do at the moment...

Well, you Aussies just want to find a new sugardaddy to fund it.
"Fraid Alan Bond was just a pirate and got caught with his hand in the till. In the meantime everyone else is making good use of your pool of talent, NZ included.

I think you are confused historically.
Remember Australians were criminals transported out of England and they didn't have many women there then but plenty of sheep.

America's Cup??? What was that crack Dennis Conner said, "...if you're not sailing a cat, you're sailing a DOG"? You V bottom ragbaggers ain't shit. Try the South 40s in a 110' Maxicat at 45 knots in 12'-15' seas, see how you like racing THEN.

Better yet, try the Offshore race courses in a 40' Supercat with 1500HP, running over 135MPH for 16 laps. Or the UIM 46' turbodiesel cats with 2400HP that run over 160. THAT oughta get your adrenaline flowin'!:p

V bottom blowboats are SO 20th Century.

Hey all you assholes stop dissing sheep....... They never complain about headaches or if you fuck their sister. These are solid traits women could learn from.

ever hang 120' up trying to free the peak hailyard? just might get your adrenilin going.
