So Alaska is America's last line of defense against North Korea?

That link is comical. It reads like the setting for a new war/apocalypse movie.

Like, maybe a remake of Dr. Strangelove where Major Kong destroys North Korea instead of Russia.

Or maybe a more hyped up drama like: South Korea has fallen....the UN is powerless......China remains silent...The US elite forces have failed. But..somewhere in remote Alaska, at a forgotten military outpost... A small group of soldiers ban together against a sinister, superior force. America's last hope....to save planet Earth.

I would think the Pacific Ocean is the last line. Sort of the moat around the castle.

Even more, your last line would be Vandenberg's missile defense program.

Wouldn't Alaska be more like the first line of defense? I would think New Jersey would be the last line (if you were defending New York City, for example).

In my mind, yeah. Alaska should be the first line of defense in that scenario. I'm not sure what our gov't considers a priority so far as the importance of cities go. It's only normal to have the most populated cities protected somewhere on the top list of priorities. But as to what is logically necessary to ensure the continuance of a functional gov't, I'm not sure.

But we're talking about North Korea here. A threat fer sure. But surely the US has a more formidable defense system in place for a nuclear attack. The general public is intentionally not aware of such a system, but I'm ok not knowing that.

You guys would stop anything they sent your way long before it re-entered our atmosphere.

I get what all the hype is about?

First line of defense would be preventing it from leaving NK air space.

You know, I have never thought about that before today.

They aren't...but they are the speed bump...everyone has their role.

Mind you, I have no disrespect about Canadians, but he was trained by NASA and Americans. I find comfort in knowing this.

Sea Daddy- It has been a while since I was in... The SM-2 still the go-to anti-ballistic?

It's been replaced. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_Missile

Only because Chris Hadfield is the best space cadet Canuckia has ever produced...
I think that has more to do with his personal ambition to reach the stars. Probably someone that accepts no excuses in that endeavor. Something the USA once inspired greatly, but now lacks such a desire and the will to do so.

Interesting. Thanks.
