It's snowing here! I just thought I'd share this with you because I'm in two minds about snow.

On one hand snows fantastic! It looks so pretty and you can go sledging (yes I'm 20 and I still use my kiddie sledge) as well as building snowmen and having snowball fights.

One the other hand however, it makes the roads round here (I live in a little village) pretty much impossible to drive on, thus cutting me off from my job and even more upsetting my rowing! It's at times like this when I realise how dependant I am on my car.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings!

No, no, ramble some more. I love it, Elsie. Does the whole village get cut off from the world?

Not that I can remember. The high street is a main road so that's kept pretty clear, It's just that in order to get to my job or to the town where to rowing club is I have to drive down some really tiny country lanes, the sort that never get gritted and have very high accdent levels.

I do remember having the day off school because none of the teachers could make it in when I was a tiddler. My sister and I played outside whilst my mum dug out the drive. We threw snowballs at her!

I also remember a friend coming round and the pair of us bundling up, making cocoa in a thermos and taking the sledge out. We were out for most of the day, diving into really deep ditches because the snow cushioned our fall and seeing how fast we could career down the nearby farm track on the sledge. Aaah, fond memories!

Still sure you want me to ramble?

isn't rambling dangerous unless you have a compass and a mobile phone with you, in all this snow?

aww I envy you your snow, we have partly sunny skies and about 70 degrees here.

Exactly how much snow did you get Elsie?

I got eight inches on Sunday. Hardly slowed things down at all. We got three feet in 24 hours a few years ago. That stop things pretty good.

And I lived in a place that got 12 1/2 feet one winter. That was… interesting.

And you were a tiddler when you were a child? They start them young over home, don't they?

I don't dislike snow! If snow were about 80 degrees Fahrenheit, I would like it, too!

Just in passing, have you thought of somehow hooking the oars onto your car, so you might row through the snow?

I just realized what a foreigner I am here. Two weeks ago the snow was almost completely gone. This last weekend we got at least a foot of snow. Except for the guy on the weather report, I could not find anybody who was the least bit surprised, or upset about it.

Yeah but here in our little island a mere inch of snow can cause chaos! I mean in autumn a fall of leaves can bring the railway network to a standstill.

Then theres the wrong kind of snow!!! whatever that is?

too little/too much rain I could go on but wont

It's yellow.

As a kid I was always annoyed I had such a long surname, when we used to piss our names in the snow. (Hah, GIRLS: Betcha you never did that as kids!)

When I were a lad it snowed every bloody year, not always enough to keep us off school though, damn and shite. I walked 3 miles along the river Thames on the surface ice in 1963, and we watched the cars driving across the river at the frozen up ferry point... then we walked back along the river towards home. The first morning after the snow fell that year, most of it came down over one night, we had a snow drift covering the entire 6' 8" height of the front door, when my old mum opened the door she got covered in the stuff, oh how we laughed.

Men write their names with pee in the snow for the same reason dogs lick their own balls.

Because they can.

Us girls stay indoors, go to the bathroom, and REMEMBER to wash our hands afterwards.

You'll get used to it in a few years. :D

I took my son sledding for the first time while he was up for christmas, I loved it, he didn't :p He did enjoy the snowfort we built though.

Kids, the ultimate excuse to play in the snow and watch cartoons.. heh.. not that I need an excuse, I do it anyways. :)
