PLEASE NOTE

I have now installed a modern and efficient browser and firewall. This has reduced my access to this board to read-only. Naturally that is of little or no concern to the owners of the board, who cannot be expected to adjust their board to handle every browser/firewall combination which users may throw at them.

In consequence, my access to this board is now READ ONLY. Anyone contacting me (eg by PM) will therefore need to supply an email address if they want a reply.

TO answer the obvious question, I have posted this from a friend's computer.

I don't understand. You'd think a "modern and efficient browser" would let you communicate both ways, wouldn't you?

What the hell is a firewall for anyhow? Isn't it just the same as virus protection?

more so

viruses are one thing, active hackers quite another, Zoot. Firewalls are supposed to deny access to the local machine from the network, whatever network, except in defined cases and conditions. They are designed, unfortunately, to be configured by system admin people, not laymen, and they can be a bear to set up, since a lot of the options are encrypted in computerese.

Oh. Well, if I couldn't communicate both ways, I think I'd just as soon not have the internet. That would drive me nuts.

I work as a computer consultant. When one of my clients installs a firewall/new firewall, the highly trained network support guys spend at least a day or two running around putting out fires where long term installed software no longer works. It takes at least a week for substantially all of the problems to be solved. These are people who do this for a liviing.

Good luck with the firewall Snooper!

Wierd. I thought I knew about those kinds things, but I have never heard of anyone who could post http requests (to tell Lit to send the pages to you) but can not post html form information (to post on Lit). Don't they run on the same port?

Any geek in da house that knows?

I am not a computer geek..but, on the very bottom of the screen has something that says Forum Rules and then it will show if the vB is on or off...img is on or off....each one has a link...perhaps you can try to work it throught that?

When I am posting a reply - my vB code is on Normal Mode...

Good luck!

another thing

There are Options you can configure within the Control Panel thing at the top of the forum pages.

Turn off the cookies?

There could be other random things I don't know enough about to say if they might help.

I use zone alarm. I'm a computer blonde, but it works well and you just have to tell it when you want to let a program access the internet or not.

Hooray for me!

Some updates appeared in my protective software and lo - a miracle - I am back on Lit!

Do I hear boos in the background?

No boos, simple advice, keep jacking with your firewall. Until you understand its functions and capabilities and it understands exactly what you want it to do, you will have glitches. Sounds like a good one to block Lit to read only, he, he.

I would have missed you if I hadn't confused you with Snoopy.

So, are you the Welsh one or the German one?
