Sticky: Snippettsville - Introduction, Rules, Links
As a group of writers who support one another for their project, the "Snippetville Group" is housed in the Story Discussion Circle [in several threads bearing this group's label]. The SDC, is a forum where a person may go for critique of a story on any topic (on a swap basis), and its coordinating thread is at the "Discussion: Feedback" thread of the Story Discussion Circle.

Dear Snippettsville Group Members,
Thank you for being involved in the planning stages, story writing, and editing processes of the Snippettsville Group. Without that input and support Snippettsville may never have become a township peopled with real characters.
Although this is the end of our project, it has shown that there are possibilities within Literotica for people to achieve different results in a non standard manner.
With the SG lasting over a year, we've also proven that longevity in character and town creation, is possible.
Good luck with all your future writing and thank you for being a part of the Snippettsville Group.
Regards

Introduction (posted by Alex)
Hi, and welcome.
Snippettsville is the creation of the Snippettsville Group, a bunch of Literotica authors who got together to write some short stories about the little town of Snippettsville and its inhabitants. If you're interested in writing for the Group, the basic facts are these:
Snippettsville is a small town of appproximately 2000 souls, 'out West, near the Interstate'.
To try and keep us all pulling in the same direction, we have some rules set up, as follows:
Rules
1. Any author wishing to submit stories to the Snippettsville Group to be considered for formal Literotica submission, must have signed in on the Legal Sign In thread. (This is a Literotica requirement, as groups of stories are submitted for posting under the 'Snippettsville Group' name)
2. All stories submitted to the Story Posting thread are to be between 585 and 605 words.
3. Stories are to be based in present day, concessions will be allowed for flashbacks.
4. Please keep a 'small town ambience' in your stories.
These are the main rules and should be enough for anyone creating new characters in, or visiting, Snippettsville. Those of you who are interested in more background, including history, characters, locations, street names, businesses, maps, etc, and who might want their characters to interact with people already here, please read on.
5. If you 'borrow' a character or setting from another author, please liaise with the original author with respect to any growth of the character or changes in the setting that you wish to make or have made. You'll find character details in the 'Character Database', setting details in the 'Settings Database'.
6 It is strongly suggested that all authors read every story that is accepted in order to keep up to date with what's
happening in Snippettsville.
At the bottom of this page you'll find the names of the main conspirators, if you have any questions. Links to the individual author pages will be given in each issue where a member's story appears.
Now, on with the introduction ...
* * * * *
Welcome to Snippettsville. Don't look for it on your map, because you won't find it, but in our parallel universe you'll find it out West, not far from the Interstate.
Snippettsville was founded in the 1880s by Zachariah Snippett who built a lumber mill on Hope Creek to handle the timber that was being cut around that time. Eventually the loggers moved on and Snippettsville sank into a cosy obscurity that it largely maintains today. These days Snippettsville functions largely as a dormitory for city folks wanting to live somewhere more rural. Not as attractive a concept as it used to be, because the traffic entering and leaving the city, Cedar Grove, seems to get heavier daily. The endless highway repairs don't help either. The railroad passes through town, but the passenger depot was closed some years ago and is now our Police Chief's offices and jail.
The population is around two thousand, give or take a few. You'll find the usual things around here, diner, general store, churches, rooms for rent and the like, and we have our own radio station. Electricity is supplied by the nearby city utility.
Hannah McGuire runs the diner. She gets some breakfast and lunch trade from the locals, and some of the truckers leaving Cedar Grove have passed the word around that it's well worth the ten-minute detour from the Interstate for one of Hannah's breakfasts.
Jack and Ethel Carr run the general store. You might want to say hello to Jack, 'cause he's a writer too. He hasn't sold anything yet, but he plugs on. He's started to write a little erotica now, because the computer that his son Harry got for him has an Internet connection and he's found this story site called Literotica. Ethel's read some of his stories and while she quite enjoys them, she's terrified that the neighbors will find out!
You'll meet Hannah, and Jack and Ethel, and other folk, in some of the stories you'll read.
A few of the residents rent out rooms on a casual basis to folks on vacation, although this isn't particularly a tourist area. However, the local county has made over part of the route of the old logging railroad at Green Lake - long since dismantled - as a hiking and biking trail and that brings a few folks in. Watch out for the bird sanctuary. The hiking and biking trail skirts it, so the migratory birds which visit the area won't be disturbed. Then there's Green Lake itself, which has some cabins and a sailing club. More than one of the local girls has lost her maidenly virtue near Green Lake.
The Green Lake Lodge is a popular holiday haunt. The Lodge hosts a couple of Balls each year, admission by ticket only, and sponsors a couple of dinghy races on the Lake.
Green Lake used to be smaller, but the county dammed Green River gorge and the back-up of water makes a nice lake for sailing, canoeing and the like. The lake also supplies Snippettsville's drinking water. The lay of the land means that the Eastern end of Green Lake is pretty wild and inaccessible, although there are cabins in some of the bays. Access to them is usually only by boat, but there's a ranger trail along the ridge and a couple of cabins can be accessed by jeep trails, so long as you have a rugged four-wheel drive vehicle. You won't find all of the trails on maps, either.
We actually have a nudist camp, too. There are three islands in the lake, north of the bird sanctuary. The middle one, Umbra Island, is home to The Lady Iothane Institute Campgrounds.
Come and explore and meet the locals - and the visitors - and make damn' sure you have some of Hannah's cherry pie before you go. Drive carefully and watch out for the law! Tom Holt's friendly, but he doesn't suffer fools. He's our Chief of Police, but watch out for the Highway Patrol, too. Sometimes they detour for some of Hannah's pie.
Feel free to add to the Chronicles of Snippettsville, but check out the introductory posts first. Our rules are few and are intended to keep us all pulling in the same direction. The time is the present, although there are places in Snippettsville where you wouldn't notice, but if you want to consider a flashback, go ahead.
A few other things you need to know. Snippettsville has two churches, St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Morrison and the Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Niles. You'll see some of the businesses around town on the map, but we could use some more.
