I smoked for 10 years and then quit cold turkey when I became pregnant a few years back. I made it through the pregnancy just fine, but then started smoking some afterwards. It didn't last long, and to this day it is a very rare occasion that I smoke a cigarette. In fact, it's been over two months since I've put a cig to my lips.

Now, weed, that's another story! ;)

I hate the smell of smoke!

My dad used to smoke and I've always hated it. Now my sisters both smoke

I've been smoking for about 9 years now, and am slowly quitting. It's a very hard process, but I am proud to say that I have gone from 1 1/2 packs a day, down to 5-8 cigarettes in a day. I think that is pretty good. Hopefully soon, at the rate I'm going, I'll be smoke free by the end of the year. Keep your fingers crossed...........(lights up a smoke)

It's weird...I've tried it, didn't care for it much, and thought it to be pointless. I like the smell of the smoke itself...but the aftersmell that lingers on people and clothes is so disgusting. Especially when you're sitting there and a person just walks bye and thats all you can smell...ewww...makes me want to be sick. And I won't even get into the yellow fingernails and teeth...smoking is just one of the most unattractive things that there is...the others being my secret.

I smoked my first cigarette at nine. I do want to quit, eventually. But I don't want to do it yet. Which is probably why all attempts at quitting have failed.

I'm happy to say I have cut down a great deal since a few months ago.

Shit! You think I'm bitchy now, take my smokes away and you'll wish you'd never even thought of doing that.

I'm odd though. I wont smoke in my house. I smoke in bars only when I'm near other smokers. If I'm near non-smokers I either put it out or move. If I'm walking outside or at the park or anywhere actually, I move my cigarette away when people walk by.

My friends look at me like I'm psycho, I do this constantly.

I think I've got to be the most smiled at by non-smokers smoker in Upstate NY.

Hey I figure they're my lungs, I can fry them if I want to. But if I can keep it away from someone who'd rather not have it near them, then I do it.

When I smoke, I usually hold my cigarette away from whomever I'm with, that way the smoke won't get into their eyes, mostly. It's common courtesy if you're going to smoke. But baby, you can blow smoke in my face anytime you want. ;)

I'm a smoker, waiting for an epiphany.

Ain't that the truth!

I HATE how my hair and my clothes smell like smoke. I hate hacking up a lung when I wake up in the morning. I HATE the scratchy/phlegmy feeling in my throat.

But then again, the pure bliss of that first drag. *sigh*

i smoked for 6 years... sort of quit, then started again cuz of stress, and am now almost a full year being completely away from it... it really was hard to quit, and it was really helpful to have someone to help me do it.

How about close relatives dying from lung cancer and other smoking related diseases? Would that be an epiphany for you?
I don't recommend it, however. It hurts to see someone you love in so much pain. It hurts you just as much when they finally die from their disease, even though by that time you know it is a welcome relief for them to slip away and not have to endure their suffering anymore.

I know that many people enjoy smoking and just don't want to quit. It is their life and their lungs, and I won't preach to them unless they get in my face with their smoke. I have allergies which are triggered by smoke so I try to stay away from it as much as possible.

Tried smoking one time when I was a kid, didn't like it, haven't picked up a cigarette since.

Unfortunately, I've been around smokers all my life. I now have to deal with the respiratory problems that comes from being raised in that environment. That's the main reason I don't go out anymore - most places allow smoking and I just can't be around it too long without suffering the consequences.

I applaud Angel and Myst for taking other people's feelings into consideration - most people don't. Out of all my friends that smoke, only one has ever been considerate of the fact I couldn't be around it. My respect for you two has increased 100 %!

And Angel, you might as well quit. You are too sweet to be a bitch!! :p

I've smoked

but it never became a habit. I've tried it just so I could hang out with my friends or relatives that did it. Since they quite, I don't do it anymore.

I smoked for about two years and quit last spring. Although on occasion I will have a ciggie, or inhale deeply when my boyfriend smokes around me. :D

I didn't want to quit though, I actually LIKED smoking... the smell the taste. But I went on a health kick (which I'm still on and doing great!!) and gave it up.

Besides I got sick of hearing everyone around me bitch when I lit up.

Angel, I know what you mean. I smoke, yet I hate the smell on my clothes, and the gross ashtrays. I hate when other smokers blow smoke in my face and I always try not to do that. I also try not to light up at the same time. My Mom is allergic to smoke, so I end up out in the rain a lot when she's around.

Cheyenne, unfortunately I have lost people to cancer. The scare tactics just don't seem to work. Everyone in my family has tried it. I've tried to scare myself out of smoking, and have even been to hypnosis, and tried Nicorette. I would love to quit.

Blackbitch, I think most cigarette smokers are pretty considerate. Most would move, or put out a cigarette for someone. To me, it's the cigar guys that usually seem to get mad.

The first time I saw someone struggling for breath from COPD I put down my cigarettes and never touched them again.
Of all the ways to die I think it is one of the worst.

No, scare tactics don't work. I lost my Grandpa to lung cancer, and I still smoked. My mom was beside herself, swore she'd never smoke again, and lit up 3 days later.

It was peer pressure when I was 14 that got me smoking, and it was peer pressure that got me to quit. I was the only one in my group that smoked, and they didn't like it. I was sick of how I felt too. I used to love to run as a kid, and I just couldn't do it any more.

No one will quit unless they want to and they're really ready.
