SMALL TOWN by Lawrence Block

4 stars

Its all excellent but the story. Lemme explain.

Block's premise is, 911 changed people forever, and in strange ways. Okay. All the characters in this book were affected significantly, but c'mawn!

Its a book about a serial killer at large in New York City, and several people connected with the killer in one way or another. The gay alcoholic janitor is the one who finds all the bodies wherever he happens to be working. What are the odds! So half the book is about the murders (in gory detail), and the other half is about a 38 year old art seller who abruptly obsesses about her sexuality and wants to explore it plus change every man/woman she encounters. Half the book is detailed sex including gay sex between straight, married men. Very graphic.

Most readers don't like the woman. She is over the top. I thought BIPOLAR, MANIC EPISODE. Its what they do. The cops usta carry them in, naked or dressed in lingerie, and soaking wet from being in the fish pond down at the mall.

Its too implausible.
