My home town is small, at one time it was very small, less then 1500 population. Now it's grown a bit. It's up to 4500. But the population of the county around it has grown. One half of the population of the county (about 30,000) live with in 10 miles of the town. Even with that it still has that small town mindset so when something out of the ordinary happens everyone is either puzzled or shocked.
All that being said, my son is a police detective for this small hamlet. Tonight at dinner ( for his birthday) he told me about a suicide he went to this week. It hasn't yet made the paper but will in the next day of two. Anyway this guy was older, 62, and just moved here from California. Before I go on I do have a request for California and Alaska: PLEASE KEEP YOUR DAMNED PEOPLE HOME, MY COUNTY IS GETTING OVER RUN WITH THEM!
ON with the story......this guy didn't commit suicide in a nice neat manner. He had a car in the garage and garden hoses galore. CO poisoning is a nice easy way to go. He also had a 9 mm pistol and a Colt Commander 45 acp. One pull of the trigger and you're off to see the wizard. So what did he do? He stripped down to his socks and used a table saw. He had a small cut on the left side of his neck that barely got through the skin and fat from his first try. The second time he did it right and cut through his juggler vein. He lived long enough to turn off the saw and walk through the blood to his laundry room from the garage. According to the autopsy he had very little blood left in his body. Since a normal human body has 1.2 to 1.5 gallons of blood, there was probably a gallon all over the floor in his garage and laundry room. They found him when his brother stopped by to drop off some muffins and saw blood running out from under the door.
I can't really imagine what was going through his mind as he prepared to dispatch himself. It gives me chills.
