i just saw it a couple days ago-rented it, and all i can say is wow..i loved it. i found out later that i got the edited version, that there were a couple more violent/explicit scenes that were cut out of my version, which really pissed me off, as im told one of the scenes was of something thats a huge fantasy of mine.

i was looking on amazon.com to buy a copy and made the mistake of reading the "reviews" of this movie. so many reviews mentioned the "sick, twisted" relationship. i got pissed off until i remembered that vanillas dont understand us.

but, back to the movie-has anyone else here seen it, if so what did you think? i thought it was a really romantic movie overall..i was supposed to return it last night but im keeping it to watch it again. and dirk bogarde and charlotte rampling both gave incredible performances.

Hehe- many years ago, at a drive-in. Very odd, as I recall. Created quite a stir at the time.

heh i can imagine  its about a former nazi concentration camp guard, and his victim/lover. he tortured her but also loved her..they meet again 11 years later....

i really think anyone into SM would like this movie...and its not just a sexploitation movie, tho i think thats how it was marketed...its a really good movie.

im already hit with three days of late fees cuz i cant bring myself to bring it back yet, want to watch it one more time...

Have always loved that film, Dirk Bogarde and Charlotte Rampling were such huge sexy Euro-stars back in those days. The song "Nightporter" by Japan always reminds me of that flick. Check Helmut Newton photos of Charlotte Rampling if you can find them, decadent!!

yeah, theyre both pretty hot  i've been searching for the unedited version on amazon ect and cant find it. i watched the movie only to be told by a friend that theres a scene where he puts the barrell of a gun in her mouth. that wasn't in my version and i really want to see it...

Good taste...

You have good taste in films but you have to listen to `Nightporter` by Japan as mentioned earlier. Let us know if you do...:rose:

Sig,

Call the distributor before you order it and see what they can tell you. Otherwise I'd say check the running times.

I happened to rent this a couple months ago and was really disappointed. Now I realize that I got an edited version. In addition to any explicit sex I have a feeling the editing removed some of the sense of the relationship. They left in all these long drawn out shots of nothing much happening and from that I'm supposed to build a love story.

Not.

So, because I didn't feel their relationship I couldn't be much bothered by their idiocy which eventually dooms them.

The idea was hot but I was pissed off because of all the allusion to deviant sex that didn't appear.

I loved the ballet scene, however. That was my favorite part of the entire film. I could've watched it 50 times.

i used to like japan :) the song i remember is "rowboat to rhodesia" but i remember i liked a few others as well. i searched for "japan" on kazaa and couldnt find a damn thing :( i dont remember a song called nightporter and now i am so damn curious to hear it...

bridgeburner-i think you most certainly got a heavily edited version, because even in my somewhat edited one you understood the relationship and there were some somewhat graphic bdsm scenes.

yeah the ballet scene was really cool. my favorite scene was when they were first reunited tho... so much passion. it just seemed so real, i could definately feel where both of them were coming from. i mean imagine you are into bdsm and D/s but youve been in a vanilla marriage for 11 years..then you suddenly find the person you were in a D/s relationship with again..youre alone in the room with them. so much passion.. *sigh* :)

im curious what you mean by their idiocy-you mean holing up in his apt instead of trying to run?

update! just went digging through an old dusty box of all my tapes and found my japan -Exorcising Ghosts tape :) night porter is on there. i don thave a tape player here in the house tho so ill have to wait til i go somewhere in the car to listen to it cuz the car has a tape player. i'll let you know what i think of it tho :)

The version I got was heavily edited enough that if I didn't already know something about D/s relationships I never would've understood anything. As it was I had to fill in most of it. I see her in the line, I see him pick her, I know what kind of power he has so I fill in the rush and the passion and the whole dependancy on one another. They never speak, you never see her crave him and she just seems like a ninny at the hotel when she fights him.

As for the idiocy, I couldn't figure out why the Nazi's would starve them out rather than just go in and kill them. I couldn't understand why the couple finally decides to walk out and how they were allowed to get as far as they did etc. I mean, it just seemed like gimicky movie stuff to me. "It happens that way because we say so."

But I'm not much of an artiste. I'm not dumb by any means, but I get bored with a lot of arty stuff. I spent too many years in the theater where everybody and his dog plays group therapy and let's masturbate on stage and call it art so I'm kind of cynical.

Actually, the best film of this nature probably has a lousy rep and it does have some hardcore scenes in it. The acting is inferior and there is a certain amount of cheesiness in it, but emotionally/psychologically speaking I felt it handled the subject of a D/s relationship within the Holocaust schematic quite well.

Only I can't immediately recall the name of it. I'll have to check at home and get back to you.
