Slow story approval

I've had a story in "pending" for a week now. It's never taken anywhere near this long for something to be approved before. Is anyone else seeing very long wait times for story approval?

Halloween contest going on right now. Those stories have been getting priority approval. It will post eventually, just a bit longer than usual.

Very sorry for the backlog. I'm now working to get caught up.

But do know that stories and poems are approved by date, oldest to newest. Whenever the author makes changes to a story or poem - or even if the author clicks on the submission and hits SUBMIT again - that submission is moved to the end of the queue. To speed up the posting of your work, only make changes when necessary.

In other words - if your story shows the words "PENDING" next to it, don't open it and hit SUBMIT again or it will send it to the back of the line.

If you story shows any other words next to it (i.e. "IN PREVIEW", "NOT ACCEPTED" etc.) then your story is not in our queue. If you want it in the queue, you should open it and hit SUBMIT at the bottom.

Don't. It will put you back to the beginning of the queue.

If you suspect a problem you should write a pm to Laurel and ask her to look into it. Maybe give it a few more days first...

I don't see anyone on this thread criticizing Laurel for the delays. They are mostly concerned whether or not their story has dropped into a submission crack (it inevitably happens from time to time) because the posting times aren't matching the official estimates. There's nothing wrong in taking a posting check--or in PMing if they seem inordinately long. You don't know what inordinately long is at any given time, though, without doing a comparison check.

I do find your turn to sweetness and light and supportiveness lately amusing, though. JBJ. That happens when someone moves from slamming everyone's writing on the forum to actually posting some writing of their own. Don't mind seeing that cat belled, though.

I know it gets confusing to new writers who have started submitting and expect the normal time frame to post. It should be noted somewhere that during contests, the wait time increases and to expect longer than normal post times for non-contest stories.
Most don't realize that Laurel is the only one doing it and as JBJ stated, a little slack is in order on her behalf.

But, what's up with only 20 stories making it through today? That isn't helping to ease the backlog.

8 days is crazy.

Especially looking at the post that mentions only 20 new stories today and no contest.

Maybe the 28 posts (pretty much all on the GB) yesterday interfered with the editing.

Seems to me I would spend more time on what draws the advertisers and makes the site money rather than wallow in the ass kissing banality of the GB.

But then again the site makes money so its a fat cat mentality.

Personally, I think after over 12 years of reading and running the site, Laurel is entitled to have some fun time. I can't imagine reading through the thousands of stories, some bad enough to make you gag and that's all her day is supposed to be about.
It always seems easy to bitch about someone from their perspective, but I wouldn't even want to attempt a day of what she does. IMHO

Tell it to someone else. I ran my own business for 5 years while still working full time and juggling a wife and kids.

I still work full time and run two on line businesses.

Do I still have fun? yes, when my work is done.

But its not just slow story approval it goes back to all the broken site features and all the "tell me what you guys want, so I can totally ignore it and do something else" things as well.

The attitude that the authors are owed nothing here is ludicrous because its at the top of the stories and story pages the paid advertising is on.

The boards make no money, have all the fun you want, but do your job first.
