Hi, i'm new here and don't know if this is the right section to ask my question.

I have started writting two stories, and they are both split into chapters, they are both for the Lesbian category, but not every chapter is wild erotic sex, a lot of it is just aobut the relationship and the characters lives together. I like to write more about the mood and the lives outside the bedroom, but the chapters that do involve sex are very erotic and wouldn't be suitable anywhere but the lesbian category.

SO, my question is this, if i wanted to submit either of these stories to the site, then how would i do it, would some of it go in one section and the erotic chapters in another? how would it work if at all?

I hope someone can help me with this!

I would recommend you post all the chapters together in one category. I don't know how well stories that jump categories do, but I know that I am a creature of habit and stick to a few categories unless there is a story by an author that I know/enjoy or has been recommended. And I hate starting a story in the middle, so I wont' open up a story that is Chapter 4 if I haven't read Chapters 1-3.

If your main characters are lesbians, then post the chapters in the Lesbian category ... there may be some readers who will "ding" you for not having hot girl on girl sex in each posted part, but those may not be the people who are your intended audience.

The other choice is the Novels and Novellas category. In that category you can post the whole story (all chapters) in one shot or post chapter by chapter.

Welcome aboard ...

Listen to the 'Lurker; her advice is comprehensive. (Personally, I'd suggest not splitting up your stories, as the whole -always- has a better impact than a part; maybe go lesbian category if your total story is below 30k words and novella if it's higher.)

And welcome.

Never split up a story. It is all of the background of a realtionship that gives great stories their richness.

I agree with everyone else, keep it all in one category. You might consider putting a little Author's Note notification at the top of any chapter that doesn't have explicit sex in it, to warn pure "stroke" readers that the chapter isn't going to be their cup o' tea.

It doesn't always work, but it will deflect a few of the potential complainers.

Hi, Fallen, and Welcome to Literotica and the AH in particular. :) Yes, this is the place for questions like you are asking.

The lurker is right. It is generally better to submit all chapters to the Lesbian :p category, unless it is very long (such as 30,000 words or so) Then it might work better in Novels and Novellas, but you can still submit it in Lesbian.

It is also usually better to submit all the parts or chapters at the same time and, in the notes section, include the info, "This is Part X of Y parts." When I say "all at the same time" I mean all on the same day, but in as many submissions as there are chapters. In other words, send each chapter in separately.

"Submit" means send in to Literotica. The management of Lit. will then "Post" the story, and it usually takes about a week. Individual chapters are usually posted one per day when they are all available.

When you specify a category, it is only a suggestion and Management will post it where they believe it belongs, which is almost always where you suggest.

wow thanks everyone

i didnt expect so many replies so quickly!

Thanks for the advice.

The stories are split into chapters to define one 'scene' from another.
Its not finished yet, its kind of ongoing and i add to it when i feel the need to write, so thats why i was thinking of posting the chapters i had so far and adding others later? would this be ok?

I shall indeed put it in 'lesbian' then, mentioning which chapters aren't sex, and also which chapter it is.

if my suggestion above meets with approval from you lovely all knowing and wise ones then i shall start posting the story up!

thanks for your help, and for the welcome!

It depends if you are going to break up the chapters of post as awhole. I would post under the same section to keep the story together if you break it up.

Don't forget, you can always put a disclaimer before the story (or an individual chapter) that says there is something specific in the story (knowing that it might cause some readers to be put off). Some authors release Non-Erotic stories (especially in LW or Romance) and lead them off by warning that there is no explicit sex. Doesn't seem to hurt their views or scores.

Keep the chapters together. Ignore anyone who complains. If you split them up you'll get complaints anyway. At least if you keep them together, more people will know how to find your story.

Bump!!

Heya all, thanks for all your advice before, i just wanted to let you know that the story has been completed, that it's been put it in the lesbian category.

I'm combining chapters to make 'Parts' (part 1 is chapter 1-3 for example!)

I'd be great if you could take a look at it and offer some feedback i'd really appreciate it! For You, My Love

Just to say i had fantastic guidance from RogueLurker for editing purposes, and i think you should all check her suff out too if you havent already!

Thanks again all!

Even if you describe it as Part x, Part y, etc., it will still be posted as chapters.

Just something I read and thought I would share.

Edible Gifts

One holiday, my husband and I picked out all our presents together, so we both knew what we were going to get. Out of money, and still wanting to surprise him, I thought of a gift that was perfect for him. I got an old baby food container and filled it half with honey and half with sugar. I then put a label on it that read, edible exfoliater. Then I ran a bath with candles, flowers and the works. He loved it! The honey and sugar mix is a great skin exfoliater for the bathtub, and its edible so it works in the bedroom too. If the taste is a little strong, add a dab of vanilla extract.
