Dillinger's post prompted this. :)

What are your favored relaxation techniques to get yourself to sleep? Do you relax each part of your body? Drink warm milk? Tell your kids a story? Count sheep? LOL Or maybe you tell yourself a story while counting sheep and drinking warm milk?

I get comfy, and tell myself a story. It's always the same one, and I'm usually asleep before I finish. I think it's the detail and repetition that gets me. What is it? It's nothing really. I map out how I want my life to be if I won the lottery. I mean everything. Incredibly detailed. What color the carpets would be, drapes, what kind of furniture. Should I get a leather recliner or fabric? On and on. Every single detail. No wonder I conk out before too long. ;)

I usually take a warm bath, then crawl into bed, and begin to fantasize about my dream job .. which changes with my mood, but it always involves some sort of public speaking.

I think the feeling of hope shuts down my normally worried mind .. lets me fall asleep.

um...actually I masturbate. post orgasm is one of the few times that I'm not actively thinking...it's then easy to fall asleep. And since i shower in the morning it all works.

i dont so much tell myself a story, as start to "dream"...think of things i wanna dream about as i'm trying to drift off..it usually works too..if not, i force myself, by more or less yelling at myself until i sleep, lol, its pretty bad

For me it's a hot shower, my favorite scented lotion, then I snuggle in bed with a book or I watch the news. Either way I fall asleep fast.

It's at 2 or 3 am when I wake up and my mind is racing...filled with brilliant ideas, things I want to try with my kids at school...that's when I have trouble getting back to sleep. Masturbation works well then.

I usually don't have a problem getting to bed. If I do, I'm out of luck. Shy of drugs (ie, Tylenol PM or whatever - I'm not hip enough for actual sleeping pills.), if I can't sleep, I won't sleep until I'm too exhausted to be awake.

Masturbating doesn't shut my mind off. Le sigh.

Tea or a glass of wine and a warm bath.

Or there is always masturbating. I'm asleep moments after orgasm.

My bedtime habits have changed a lot lately. I was a desperate insomniac for about 5 years, and then suddenly I started falling asleep constantly. Right now I'm somewhere between the two extremes. I've been sleeping on my futon this entire summer, instead of on my bed, despite the fact that my matress is the comfy-est thing ever. Every night I put in a movie. I never watch TV ( I dont GET TV), and I only own 6 movies, so I know them all very well. I put one of them in, and I'm done. I've noticed lately that if I put in Pretty Woman, I have to watch it twice before I fall asleep. If I put in Pretty in Pink, I almost always wake up part way through the night. If I put in the Wedding Singer, however, I hardly ever make it past when the old lady puts meatballs in Adam Sandler's hands.

Hi baby!

Hmmm.. I'm usually out within minutes of getting into bed (at least when the intention is to sleep..). On the few occassions where I can't get to sleep I get back up until I'm tired. Nothing else helps.

i've actually found that if i wake up in the middle of the night, and start to masterbate while i'm in that half awake/half asleep mode, i have the most excellent experiance:D

Sleep-

I shower and usually read until I fall asleep. Sometimes I read romance but a good suspense works also.

I've never been a good sleeper and have operated on less than 3 hours a night for weeks at a time. Masturbation makes me drowsy but I don't stay asleep. I use to watch baseball and sleep through that! Liquor/pills don't work either so I do alot of lying around letting my mind wonder.

Me too. Sleeping is something I wish came easy to me.

I take a kavakava, watch a little tv, turn it off and try and relax, wind down and turn my thoughts from worries to a dream state.
Sometimes it works and I get three or fours before I wake up again.
When I do get a full nights sleep it is absolutely wonderful. Like a long holiday on a beautiful sunny resort.

Hey! I thought it was the GUYS who got in trouble for rolling over and going to sleep as soon as we orgasm... and get in trouble for it.

For falling asleep, I find that reading works well for me. Unless it is a really good book, in which case I may be up half the night reading. For some reason I fall asleep much faster reading on my futon/couch than upstairs in my bed.

All it usually takes is a nice hot bath for me.
I can usually drift right off to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. On those nights that I don't fall asleep quickly, nothing will work and I resign myself to another restless night.

Hopefully some of these tips help someone. It's tough for me to fall asleep. I can go for about 24 hours if I allow it. But when I do fall asleep, I'm gone for 12 hours if possible. Unfortunately, it's frowned upon. :( Makes it hard to manage a job too. Heh.

Any other ideas out there?

it depends on what i have been doing, although usually it doesn't matter my sleeping habits are terrible, i am awake 3 or 4 times everynight, so after a few nights of that i take sleeping pills to get a good nights sleep!!sometimes relaxing in the hot tub and having a beer does help as far as falling asleep just doesn't work for all night!!

Friends call me and I put them to sleep...after a lengthy excitement filled conversation.
