A short while ago, I signed up for a daily slang email. The one I got today was great, and has, I thought, poetic possibilities. So I thought I'd share this one. But then I thought it might be better to start a thread, so I can share this one and any future ones that are good. Please feel free to add your own (but please include definitions too, if you can).

woolly-booger

n. (also woolly-bugger) 1. (colloquial) the larval-stage insect known as the woolly worm or woolly bear; a fishing fly that resembles such an insect. 2. (in the American Southwest, slang) an extraordinary example of a thing. 3. (in Oklahoma and Louisiana, slang) provisions intended to be overlooked in legislation.

Neo and I had a slang thread a long time ago because we were both interested in how to use slang and dialects in poetry. The Google Reference section has some great resources. For example, I found the Alternative Dictionary there, which list slang terms and definitions in many different languages. So:

Christacrutchian † An insult note A bible thumping, back sliding hypocrite, or more technically know as a Backslidious Hypocritious:) and simply called a Chian!

Billy Collins has a really funny haiku (which of course I can't find now  ) that's just Valley-girl speak.

And I used slang/dialect to write my Jersey Threat Poem:

Listen!
These was always our streets,
an I don't give a flyin' dog fuck
what buncha wacks
an the horses they rode in on
ya get down with,
but my old lady lives here, man
an my sisters, too,
an if him an his asshole buddies
shows their stinkin Wildroot Oil here
on my street:

He's in a world of trouble!
His ass is grass!
He's cruisin,
an I'll rip 'im one!

I don't wanna see his face
or smell his cookin'.

Ya got that, jack?

So ya take yer sorry shit
outta here fore I forget
my manners an knocks ya
inta next week.

And get the fuck off my threads, man.
I gotta go ta church.

I subsequently made this into an illustrated poem. Fun stuff and great idea, UnA. I'd love to see other examples of poems that use slang and/or dialects. Other poets here have written such poems. Neo has and I'm pretty sure Tristesse has, too.
