Skydiving anyone??

I sometimes have dreams about flying without the benefit of an airplane, but I don't recall ever having a dream about skydiving until tonight. I just had one and it sure seemed like fun. It may seem strange for someone who is afraid of heights, but I have sometimes thought about trying skydiving, but always though it was a little too risky - besides, I had my motorcycle to ride, and that is almost like flying on the ground at times (a few times it has been flying on the ground ).

Now I am thinking that maybe I would actually like to try skydiving. First I would have to get a job and some good life insurance though, but I think I would like both freefall (i've heard they can get up above 200 mph when going headfirst) and the sensation of hanging from a parachute. I would like to take some photography and video while doing it too.

it's something i'm interested in. I would need to learn a lot about it before i felt confident that everything would be ok. I used to work with a guy who went skydiving regularly. He loved it.

Well I am going back to bed - hopefully I will dream of some more skydiving.

I have 21 more jumps to do before I hit my 1000. I have jumped from as high as 32000 feet and as low as 900 feet (they call those ones Meat Bombs). I started in the Army and loved it so I continued when I hit civilian life.

It is a huge adrenaline rush and safer than everyone thinks. Out of all my jumps I have only had 3 accidents.

Not unless it was on fire and falling out of the sky or something equally compelling. No fucking way. I go up in them to get from one place to another, not to jump out half way and land god only knows where, probably spraining an ankle or worse while i'm at it.

I am comfortable with small aircraft, it is the pilots that sometimes scare me. I grew up with small planes; my father is a pilot - a pilot? Hell he is about airplanes the way I am about motorcycles; when he was 16 (about 60 years ago) he secretly went out and got his pilot's license against his parents wishes, and then got an airplane and hid it from his parents. If you knew my father and my grandparents, how straight laced, orthodox and demanding of obedience, you would know that this was a major thing for my dad to do.

While growing up us kids just thought it was normal; we thought everybody was a pilot; all of my father's friends were pilots, everybody he associated with owned planes, etc.

When we moved to Salem my father specifically chose a house close to the airport. When dinner time came one of us kids would have to ride our bike to the airport to fetch our dad home for dinner. When all the kids left home to start their own families, my parents bought a house out in the country at an airpark - an airport with the houses built along taxiways. Their house was right along the runway - about 100 feet back.

So yeah, perfectly good aircraft.
