I have a guide book, probably 1960s, of Garmisch-Partenkircken in Germany.

There is a mountain called "The Wank".

"The Cable Car to the WANK carries you from the center of Partenkirchen to the top of the Wank in ten minutes. The Wank (5359 ft. above sea level), being ..."

"Ski Trails from the Wank.

The trails from the Wank have been greatly improved, and are very popular. Beginners, however, should make this descent with a proper guide. The skier will of course take the cable car to reach the top. From the Wankhaus you go over the wide ridge to an open plain. ..."

Any other unfortunately named places?

Fucking Australia

Tourists are causing a lot of anxiety — and are costing money — to a tiny village where signs keep disappearing. What do the signs read? "Welcome to Fucking, Austria." Pronounced "fooking," the little hamlet of Fucking is named after the man who founded the village in the 6th century. His name? Focko. The town sign has been stolen seven times in the last few months. With signs costing several hundred dollars apiece, much of the tiny town’s budget is being spent replacing the signs, says Siegfried Hoeppel, the Mayor of Fucking. He went on to express his hope that further thefts will be avoided through the use of increased concrete and . . . bigger screws.

Not sure any of these are "unfortunate," but they're interesting! These are all names of towns in Wyoming, the state where I am from.

There's a village in Newfoundland, which is now a province of Canada, called Dildo .

No, I'm not making it up.

And every one in Michigan knows you can take a hot bath in "Coldwater" while "Hell" freezes over in Pennsylvania.
