SJ Needs Geek Squad Style Assistance!

It's much more common for a PWS to fail than a motherboard, or for a subcomponent (like memory or even a hard drive) to fry and stop the motherboard from POSTing.

SJ thinks she has a burnt out motherboard...

anybody got a spare? maybe you replaced one and have an old one sitting about?

A very common cause of the PC failing to start is that the little power switch jumper lead (which lives INSIDE the case and runs from the power switch to the motherboard) has got unplugged fom the motherboard.

Bel, get her to check that first, WITH THE PC UNPLUGGED FROM THE POWER OUTLET.

The lead I'm talking about is either blue and white or red and white and has a little black socket that attaches to a pair of brass pins on the the motherboard.
