Six figure job without a college degree?

Currently, the benchmark for an entry-level job at any employer is a bachelors degree from a university. Some experts say that it could eventually turn into a masters degree.

Most people without college degrees go on to work blue-collar jobs making well under $50,000 per year and struggle financially.

I don't know of any people making six figures who don't have a BA or MA. Most corporate jobs require an MBA from a prestigious school.

If you don't have a degree, go drive trucks or work up at the factory for the rest of your life. A college degree has become nothing more than a litmus test for employers, and a means of increasing job competition and thinning out the number of job applicants.

My good friend who used to post here sometimes as HungryJoe never finished his degree and makes six figures as a software engineer. He's by far the most successful financially of all of my friends from back then, including the ones with masters and Ph.D's.

Go work on a crab boat.
Or become a grunt (meaning a trade assistant) on an oil rig in the north sea.
There's options if you don't have a degree - you just have to look.

Those of us who began in the 70s (even my dad in the 50s) did quite well in computing without any degree.

Mike, you might look into what places like NYC pay custodial staff...

I have a friend with a 10th-grade education who makes way into 6 digits in sales as a manager.

Gawd have merceh!!!

I walked through the halls of Karma,
I shook hands with both the devil and Gawd!
...
I've walked with both all through my life,
Respected them and reflected them both!
The sympathy of Gawd as he looked in my eyes,
The excitement of the devil as we talked!

So, do we ask for he'p from Jeebus or Jim Dandy then?

They both seem to be in the rescew bidness.

I had a six figure job before I went to college.

Now I have a fun job instead.

I know what you mean.

After I got my degree, my job and my hobby switched places and I became a rather successful Karate bum...

:D ;) ;)

You shoulda seen some of the looks I got from the bankers and lawyers when I let my hair go long...

:)

Hair length shouldn't matter, especially if you work for yourself.

The cats don't care, why should the bankers?

Yates believes he is a failure before he gets out of the gate. He has some Old Programming he needs to jettison. And he needs to get off his arse.

Ha!

Quite the opposite for me. When I had my well paying 9-to-5, I was a fat, unshaved geek in an office dungeoon. Never saw anyone outside of the workgroup and only rarely sunlight.

I need to look tidy now when I'm a part time entrepreneur / part time freelancer. Go to meetings, impress banks, politicians and clients, crap like that. Got the suit, the haircut, the LinkedIn profile and everything. And American Psycho style business cards.

I'm not exactly expecting honey and manna, more like a *spit* on the forehead and a "I reckon he might as well ride along too, he's got nowhere else to go..."

And that is all of us has any reasonable expectation of receiving. It's just that, when I do get a haul of Comanchero loot, don't tell me I have to share because you say so. That's my choice.

One more reason to have more handguns than hands.
