I had a girlfriend a long time ago that had three kids. They were like 3, 4, and 6. We would actually put harnesses and leashes on them when we took them to a place where we were gonna do a lot of walking and they might get lost or run over.

The kids really didn't seem to mind it at all. It gave them more room to move and get into stuff than holding their hands or carrying them
